Destiny 2 is Bungie’s magnum opus, it is a game that has a dynamic online world and a sprawling life that is very rare to find nowadays in other games. This free-to-play game was released back in 2017 and features both a campaign mode and an intense PvP (Player-versus-Player) mode.

Destiny 2 has seen a lot of changes in the seven years that it’s been out, but their latest update delivers a devastating blow to one of their subclasses, the Void Hunter. Let’s delve deeper into the article to find out why and what the implications of this update are.
Destiny 2 has effectively killed off the Void Hunters

In the untamed world of Destiny 2, Void Hunters ruled the shadows. They were the masters of deception and stealth and also excelled at weakening enemies. Their whole kit is based on supporting their allies and, when needed, vanishing from sight to gain the upper hand on the enemy. The smoke bomb in their kit was one of the most versatile tools for a Void Hunter.
Now, with the latest round of balance changes in the game, Bungie has completely nerfed the smoke bomb, giving the Void Hunters a disadvantage over their enemies. According to Bungie’s patch notes, the smoke bomb now no longer reduces player movement speed or jump height, and neither does it reduce player weapon handling. The smoke bomb also cannot suppress player movement abilities anymore.
The Void Hunters relied on their smoke bombs for control and taking space, it was a critical ability that made them viable in the high-speed action of Destiny 2. In other words, what was once a potent tool for disruption is now nothing more than an inconvenient tickle at best. Bungie has effectively made the smoke bomb into a glorified air freshener, and without a proper disengaging tool, the Void Hunters are now left with nothing.
Although Bungie completely gutted the smoke bomb’s functionality in the game, they did not compensate the Void Runners with anything like a buff or a new melee ability. Bungie just straight-up removed 1/3rd of the Void Runners’ arsenal and called it a day. For a class that heavily relies on mobility and strategy to outplay beefier opponents, this nerf just feels cruel.
The smoke bomb nerf was uncalled for and will have massive repercussions

In the fast-paced grounds of Destiny 2, the smoke bomb was one of the most useful utilities for the Void Hunters, and now players have no reason to play as a Void Hunter at all. If Bungie had made up to the players with a new melee ability just for the specific subclass, then it might have made the situation a tad bit better.
Currently, the Void Hunters are at an unfair disadvantage, and although Bungie has explicitly mentioned that they will keep an eye out on the imbalances, players are skeptical of their statement. We are still unsure whether Bungie will address these imbalances in future updates or not, but one thing we are sure of is that this update brought the ultimate demise of the Void Hunter subclass in the game.
