The Conners is ending, and it was sadly revealed that there will be a couple of characters missing from the show’s final season.
Which Actors Are Not Returning to ‘The Conners’ Final Season?
For season 7, which will consist of six episodes, there are three cast members who will not be returning to the show. TVLine reported that Johnny Galecki’s David, Michael Fishman’s DJ and Estelle Parsons’ Bev will all be missing from The Conners’ final season.
“[David is] very much mentioned, very much alive in the story,” executive producer Bruce Helford said in a March 2025 statement to the outlet. “We love Johnny, he was always welcome, but he has more or less started life anew down in Nashville [following the conclusion of The Big Bang Theory].”
Simply put, he explained that there was only so much that could be done in six episodes with the show’s cast.
“Honestly, once you see the arcs [you will understand],” he explained. “What we never want to do is just bring somebody in just to see that person on the show. We want everyone to have something important to play.”
The news came after Michael opened up about childhood fame after portraying DJ Conner for all 10 seasons of Roseanne. He later reprised the role on The Conners’ first four seasons.
“You’re in a very strange world where not very many people can share your experiences. And it can be difficult to have people to talk to that you know are safe,” he told Remind Magazine in March 2025. “So, there’s this beautiful kind of synergy among us. Again, I cultivate this ability to be a safe space with people and acknowledge what’s going on and where they are in their world. Because I think that’s part of what we’re supposed to do.”
Seth Green Was Cast in a New Role
In March 2025, Deadline confirmed that Seth Green would be portraying a character named Chad in The Conners’ final season.
The outlet described Chad as “Darlene’s new friend at the Lobo who is going through a separation from his wife, in a three-episode arc. Chad and Darlene confide in each other and bond, a little too closely, over their similar biting humor.”
‘The Conners’ Trailer Was Released After Casting Bombshell
Ahead of the season 7 premiere of The Conners, ABC released a trailer showing what’s to come on the show. At the start of the trailer, clips from Roseanne were shown of John Goodman’s Dan Conner parenting his daughters, Darlene and Becky.
The video then flashed forward to the family in the present day. “I’ve always said life’s too short for waiting,” Dan said in the trailer.
The logline for the premiere episode of season 7 says, “Darlene celebrates her promotion, hoping it will allow her to spend more time with Ben. Meanwhile, Jackie stumbles upon an opportunity to sue the pharmaceutical company responsible for Roseanne’s addiction, which sparks a family debate.”
When Is ‘The Conners’ Season 7 Premiere?
Season 7 of The Conners will premiere on ABC on March 26, 2025, at 8 p.m. ET. Episodes will be available to watch the next day on Hulu.
