With so many shows coming out every month, it’s hard to keep track of things. But once in a while, a show completely captivates the viewers with its compelling storylines and complex characters. The same was true for Amazon Prime Video’s Reacher as well, and it completely took over the streaming service when it premiered in 2022.

While for the most part, it has stayed true to Lee Child’s best-selling novels, the show recently made a significant departure from the source material by introducing an important character much earlier than the books. While it may be questionable to others, the showrunner of the show actually has a unique logic behind it.
Showrunner reveals why Reacher revealed a key character way before the source material
Amazon Prime Video’s Reacher has been a go-to show for every thriller drama enthusiast. Since its release in 2022, it has become a massive hit, drawing fans with its gripping storyline and the brilliant acting of Alan Ritchson as Jack Reacher. While the show remains faithful to Lee Child’s novels, just like any other show, Reacher has also made some notable changes.

This was the introduction of Frances Neagley, who actually appeared much later in the books. On this, showrunner Nick Santora revealed via TV Insider that this decision was driven by a desire to enhance the storyline while also giving longtime fans an element they were eager to see. He said, “We wanted to give them something they loved sooner,” as Neagley played an important part in Reacher’s past, so introducing her earlier made more sense.
The entire adaptation process required several adjustments to ensure that the show remained engaging throughout its eight-episode structure. So instead of following the timeline established by the books, the writers saw this as an opportunity to bring Frances Neagley in earlier to deepen the narrative.
This not only expanded the show’s universe but also maintained the momentum of the show. While these changes may have shocked those who have followed the novels religiously, this change has also received a lot of praise. So, by perfectly balancing the contents of the source material with some creative choices, the show has become a fan favorite.
No cheat meals for Reacher star Alan Ritchson
After watching Alan Ritchson in Reacher, fans are only talking about two things. The first being his amazing acting chops and the second being his shredded physique. While the gym is obviously the main reason for it, he also maintains a healthy diet and doesn’t believe in the term “cheat day.”

He isn’t a big fan of restricting himself and follows the simple rule of moderation to keep his food intake in check. During an interview via The Rich Eisen Show, he explained that he eats whatever he wants without labeling certain days as cheat days. He added, “When your lifestyle is one of health and fitness, every day can become a cheat day.”
Despite his relaxed approach to food, he also openly admitted that he loves eating hot dogs and no-bake cookie dough. On the exercise part, he added that he tries to keep his sessions short, typically between 30 to 45 minutes a day, and that consistency is key. He mentioned that it’s been decades since he has followed the same routine.
Since taking on the role of Jack Reacher, he has added more weight training to his fitness routine, and it’s safe to say that in the show, he’s looking better than ever.
You can watch all the seasons of Reacher on Prime Video.
