“We did it because we love the show”: Alan Ritchson Prayed ‘Reacher’ Season 3 Would Skip a Scene from the Books That Was Too Much for Him

Alan Ritchson was afraid that one particular scene would find its way into Reacher Season 3 from the book, and that seems to have become the case in Episode 3 of the season. Ritchson shared that he hoped the scene would be skipped, but that was not the case.

The scene in particular that Ritchson dreaded had Reacher swimming out of the Beck compound in his underwear, to meet with Susan Duffy. Ritchson revealed how this scene was shot, and what he had envisioned should an alternative be required.

Reacher Season 3 ripped the underwater scene right out of the Persuader novel

Alan Ritchson revealed how the scene was shot, and how he hoped that there was some alternative that the creators behind the scenes had in mind. However, the seasons decided to be faithful to what was depicted in the novels. He said, speaking to EW:

It was tough. That water work was pretty tricky, and stripping down and crawling across those cold, wet rocks naked was not the funnest for me and for just about anybody watching — but we did it because we love the show.

Having read the book and enjoying it, that was the one [part] that I was like, ‘I hope we skip over that. Maybe [Reacher] just crawls across the lawn, maybe he stays on the grass. But no, we actually built most of that world in a gigantic indoor pool.

Reacher is one of Amazon’s most beloved IPs, one that has managed to draw in quite an audience. Along with shows like Invincible and The Boys, Reacher makes up the premiere catalog of the streaming giant that keeps the audience engaged. It also takes a pretty small budget to get done when compared to some of the streamers’ biggest blunders, like The Rings of Power.

Alan Ritchson is the perfect fit for the DCU’s Batman

The DCU is yet to figure out who its Batman is going to be, and Alan Ritchson might be the choice that James Gunn is looking for after all. Given what fans saw in Creature Commandos, the DCU’s Batman is probably going to be very buff, and the fact that Alan Ritchson has a considerable amount of experience playing a character like Reacher, he could be the Batman for the DCU.

Not only is the character the right physique for the actor, but he also seems to believably play a superhero in a world where superpowered individuals exist and operate, a lot of times even against Batman. Ritchson could also bring his audience to the DCU, which might help the franchise cater to the right sort of audience. However, DCU might lap up Robert Pattinson’s Batman into its universe, so there are always other roles that the actor could play, like Aquaman.

Reacher can be streamed on Prime Video.
