Well, it looks like we’re not done sipping wine and unraveling secrets by the river just yet. Yep, Netflix’s Virgin River is officially coming back for season 7, and we can’t keep calm. Our beloved small-town drama, filled with mysterious family trees, love triangles, and emotional cliffhangers, is about to break the network’s records as the longest-running English-language drama on the platform.
Based on Robyn Carr’s addictive novels, Virgin River has delivered everything- from medical emergencies to romantic rollercoasters, and now? Well, it is all set to stir the plot again. In Season 6, Mel and Jack finally said ‘I do’, but showrunner Patrick Sean Smith teased that we’ve only scratched the surface of their story. Shocking, right?
From marital ups and downs to family bombshells, Virgin River is far from breaking hearts and patching them up. So, grab the emotional support mug of hot cocoa because it’s time to return to the town where drama flows faster than the actual river. Season 7 is coming in hot.
When will Virgin River season 7 be released?

Sadly, Netflix is trying hard to secure an official release date. But if you’re a seasoned Virgin River binge-watcher, you probably know the drill. The new seasons usually drop towards the end of the year, meaning we’re eyeing a cozy late 2025 premiere, perfect to snuggle under a blanket and stress-eating popcorn over Mel and Jack’s next big drama.
Till now, the network has given us some details that season 7 will have 10 juicy episodes. As for where the magic’s happening? Unfortunately, the locations aren’t confirmed yet, but odds are we’re heading back to the stunning Canadian landscapes of Vancouver and British Columbia, because no one serves small-town charm and suspiciously perfect forests as well as they do.

Additionally, the production officially kicked off in March 2025, as confirmed by Netflix’s Tudum, with set photos showcasing Alexandra Breckenridge and Martin Henderson back in action. And yes, Doc, aka Tim Matheson, revealed he’s thrilled to return to the family vibe the cast has built. So, we just have to wait until the gang’s back on our screen with emotional chaos.

And with the new season and new drama, of course, we have new faces as well. Joining the cast is The Vampire Diaries’ Sara Canning as Victoria, an ex-cop-turned-investigator for the state’s medical board. Well, according to the reports, she’s headed to Virgin River to inspect Doc’s office, but bumps into a certain someone from her past that she might want to reconnect with. Another romance tide coming in!
Then there’s Cody Kearsley from Riverdale as Clay, a tough ex-rodeo guy with major main-character energy. Turns out, he’s been searching for his long-lost sister after being separated in foster care. Let’s just say, he’s got a backstory that’s dramatic like any other Virgin River episode.
And speaking of weddings, Breckenridge recently took to her Instagram during filming and joked,
I feel like I’m on day 857 of filming Season 7… We’re almost done, can you believe it? I keep wondering if they’re going to put the show out this year. What do you guys think? Probably, right?
Also worth noting, Jessica Rothe and Callum Kerr (aka Mel’s mysterious parents, Sarah and Everett) might not return this upcoming season, but they’re headlining a Virgin River prequel in the works. Spin-off dreams, people!
So yeah, the town’s getting busier, the tea’s getting hotter, and we’re totally here for it.
What will Virgin River season 7 be about?

Virgin River season 7 will feature love in the mountain air again, ready to sprinkle more romance, real-life messiness, and small-town drama than ever. This time, with a side of married couple problems. Yep, the favorites Mel and Jack have finally tied the knot in season 6’s dreamy finale, but don’t go thinking it’s all sunshine and porch kisses from here on out. According to showrunner Patrick Sean Smith, season 7 is all about exploring the unpredictable honeymoon phase. He teased in an interview with Tudum,
They’re building their lives on the farm, which can come with its own obstacles. I can’t imagine creating a scenario where you think Mel and Jack are going to break up.
Instead, he explained that they will dive deeper into richer, more emotional territory now that the will-they-won’t-they tension is finally off the table. Smith further added,
I think Alex and Martin play all of those [moments] so well. It’s just resting on emotional stakes as opposed to ‘will they, won’t they.’
Additionally, he shared that beyond the central couple, season 7 is also shining the spotlight on other townships of love. Well, we’ve got Doc and Hope, still going strong after finding their way back to each other, proving that romance doesn’t have an expiration date. Smith said,
Getting to tell love stories between two people at that age is something that television never does. It just feels special.
Then there’s Preacher and Kaia, who found love amid community chaos, and Lizzie and Denny, who are now expecting a baby, perhaps a small-town baby shower prep, and possibly some adorable chaos.

With generational love stories, new emotional layers, and a farm full of metaphorical (and maybe literal) hurdles, Virgin River Season 7 promises cozy drama with depth. Think romantic moments, heartfelt truths, and a few tear-jerkers just to keep us grounded. Basically, pack your emotional carry-on, it’s going to be a ride.
How did Virgin River season 6 end?

Virgin River wouldn’t be Virgin River without a juicy cliffhanger, and well, season 6 definitely delivered one that tugged at the heartstrings. In the finale episode of season 6, just when we thought Mel and Jack could finally kick back in newlywed bliss, life threw them a curveball that was somehow both surprising and heartwarming.
Well, one of Mel’s pregnant patients makes a huge decision- she wants Mel and Jack to adopt her baby. Yep, after all the emotional wreckage, including Mel’s miscarriage in season 5, this could be their long-overdue miracle.
Isn’t this a twist that no one saw coming, especially since it dropped right after the big romantic payoff of their wedding? It feels so. Instead of dragging us through more heartbreak, season 6 left us with a glimmer of hope wrapped in a tiny onesie. Martin Henderson told Tudum,
They can still have their dream, [but] it just might look a little different.
The moment felt like classic Virgin River, equal parts gut-wrenching and heartwarming, with just enough drama to keep us clutching our throw pillows. So now the big question heading into Season 7 isn’t just what’s next, it’s who’s next in that nursery, and how many emotional plot twists we’re about to walk into.
