Virgin Media issues major update as beloved TV box is discontinued and replaced

VIRGIN Media is phasing out a popular TV box, and is replacing them with an internet-powered device instead.

The company quietly began axing the box in late 2024.

The box in question is the TV 360 Mini, designed for multi-room setups.

The cable-connected device was launched in 2020 as a successor to the older TV V6 boxes.

A spokesperson confirmed to Cord Busters that Virgin Media will begin replacing them with Stream boxes “in the near future”.

The TV 360 Mini box will continue to offer all the usual channels and premium content.

Virgin Media will simply stop handing it out to more customers.

Customers wanting to add a Virgin Media TV to another room in their house will instead receive a Stream box.

There are many viewers still using the TV V6 box, which launched in 2016, and even the original TiVO boxes from 2011.

These legacy devices will continue to operate as normal.

The only difference is they will lack some of the newer features boasted by newer boxes, like the Stream.

The Stream box was launched in 2022 as a rival to Sky Stream – a small puck that beams telly over Wi-Fi instead of via a cable.

The shift to Stream means users can have up to six boxes per household.

That’s an additional four Stream boxes on top of a TV 360 and TV 360 Mini box.

They also don’t require professional installation – they only require a power cable in the wall, HDMI into the telly and Wi-Fi.

In October last year, Virgin Media tweaked their Stream services so that it could be compatible with the TV 360 boxes.

Though the rebrand came alongside a new £5 monthly fee for the basic service that was previously free with a Virgin Media broadband subscription.

As noted by Cord Busters, the TV 360 and Stream boxes were separate systems until recently.

You had one, or the other – but not both.

However, Virgin Media will soon begin offering Stream boxes as a multi-room solution for existing TV 360 customers.
