Robert Pattinson, the name speaks for itself. The world might know him as the guy behind the iconic roles in Twilight (2008), The Batman (2022), or his recent mega hit Mickey 17 (2025). But did you know he is also a big-time anime freak? Yes, in fact, in a recent conversation, he even mentioned that Mickey 17 took major inspiration from this Japanese media.
Now, his whole confession also gives us an idea that he might actually be interested in starring in an anime live-action adaptation as well. Highlighting the fact that Vinland Saga live-action has also been a recent talk of the town, we might have the perfect role for Pattinson in it, if it ever does become a reality.
Pattinson will nail his role as Askeladd!

Askeladd, more like Askechad! The guy may be the antagonist for the entire Season 1 of Vinland Saga, but everyone knows he single-handedly carried the season. He built the foundation where Season 2 of the series is standing now, and his influence can be felt in every moment.
Now, knowing Pattinson’s expertise in the kind of characters he usually takes on, Askeladd might just be the perfect fit for him. It’s as if he’s built for the role. Askeladd’s devious yet cunning stares, mixed with a great deal of sarcasm, are pretty hard to pull off on screen.
Yet, Pattinson embodies every bit of those aspects with his masterclass acting skills. Plus, Vinland Saga’s storyline might even align with Pattinson’s interest in media. The brutal Viking setting, showcasing the horrors of war while also highlighting what it means to be a real warrior, must sound too good for him.
Why Askeladd’s role would be the most important for the live-action
If a live-action does get announced for Vinland Saga, one of the most highly acclaimed pieces of media ever created, it would be quite a responsibility for the creators. They cannot satisfy the mass audience with some subpar adaptation; the fan rage would be off the charts.
But while choosing the cast for the live-action, the most daunting task would be selecting Askeladd’s role. If the live-action decides to follow the original storyline of the manga/anime, then it’d be absolutely necessary to bring out an A-performance of Askeladd.

He is the heart of Season 1, and it wouldn’t be too far off to say, of the entire series. Thorfinn’s entire journey is basically shaped by this man. While it initially may seem like Thorfinn’s sole reason for existence was to take revenge on Askeladd, even unknowingly to him, he unironically became Thorfinn’s father figure.
Plus, Askeladd’s whole identity as the Prince of Wales adds further depth to his character. So, the live-action has to nail his character to its minute details; no slacking off would be allowed. This all narrows down to only one man, Robert Pattinson, who can make this enigmatic character truly come alive.
Vinland Saga Season 1 & 2 are currently available to watch on Netflix.
