UTAG to hold gov’t accountable in galamsey battle

Professor Ransford Gyampo, a political science lecturer at the University of Ghana and CEO of the Ghana Shippers’ Authority, has disclosed that the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) will soon summon the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, to provide updates on the government’s efforts to combat illegal mining (galamsey).

“UTAG National Executives will soon summon the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources to brief us on government’s efforts to tackle the galamsey menace. The fight against galamsey is non-negotiable,” Prof. Gyampo stated on KeyPoints on TV3.

UTAG previously pressured the Akufo-Addo administration to address illegal mining ahead of the 2024 elections.

With a new government in place, the association is maintaining its stance that the issue must be tackled decisively.
