The company pulled the food item after it was deemed unsafe.

Do It Organic took the batches off the shelves due to the possible presence of salmonella.

Salmonella is a type of bacteria that can make people extremely ill.

It usually comes from eating contaminated food, especially raw or undercooked meat, eggs or dairy products.

When someone gets infected with salmonella, they might experience symptoms such as stomach cramps, diarrhoea, fever and vomiting.

The FSAI said: “The above batch of Do It Organic Sunflower Kernels is being recalled due to the possible presence of salmonella.

“Recall notices will be displayed at point-of-sale.

“People infected with salmonella typically develop symptoms between 12 and 36 hours after infection, but this can range between 6 and 72 hours.”

The food item had a use-by date of 18/04/2026 and its country of origin is the Netherlands.

The FSAI warned that symptoms of salmonella infection include mild flu-like symptoms and gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and diarrhoea.

The illness usually lasts 4 to 7 days but can last even longer.

Diarrhoea can occasionally be severe enough to require hospital admission.

The elderly, infants, and those with impaired immune systems are more likely to have a severe illness.

The FSAI warned that in some cases, infections can be more severe and cause serious complications.

When to contact a GP

If the salmonella infection gets more severe, signs and symptoms can include:

  • High fever
  • Severe abdominal pain
  • Dehydration
  • Persistent vomiting

If you have eaten food that has been recalled due to listeria outbreaks, you must keep an eye on any symptoms that may develop.

If you have a fever, muscle aches, nausea, or diarrhoea, contact your doctor.

The same is said for any illness developed as a result of eating potentially contaminated food.

Customers are now being advised to stay away from the affected batches.

If you have already eaten the food items and you have a high fever, vomiting, or diarrhoea, seek emergency care.
