Urgent recall of common kitchen item as Brits warned it could cause serious health risk

HOME cooks have been asked to check their recent purchases as an urgent recall is underway due to a health risk.

The long list of affected cast iron cookware is thought to have been available since 2023.

The Office for Product Safety and Standards has issued the warning after testing identified a potential for the “migration” of “heavy metal components” from the products.

With more than four individual items, three sets and two collections affected, owners of Emba cookware products have been advised to check which accessories they own.

The cast iron skillets and griddles could have been bought as recent as January this year, making it even more important to check cupboard items.

According to the recall, those who have purchased one of the items should contact Emba Cookware directly.

This will require knowledge of the original order number, contact number and details of the product purchased.

Once all of these have been confirmed, the recall will be initiated and consumers will be given details on how to return the product.

Customers should then expect to be issued with a full refund.

Local Authority Trading Standards initiated the notification after discovering that the products did not meet requirements.

The risk level has not been confirmed but the product does present a “health risk” during use.

Anyone unsure how to proceed could also check the brand’s website for further information.

Some of Emba’s eight, ten and 12 inch cast iron skillets have been included in the recall.

Also on the list are two of their Cookware Collections, as well as a pre-seasoned reversible cast iron griddle.

The skillet sets in eight, ten and 12 inches have also been mentioned.

A spokesperson for the OPSS said: “The products present a health risk as testing has identified potential migration of heavy metal components during use of the product.

“The products do not meet the requirements of The Materials and Articles in Contact with Food (England) Regulations 2012 or The General Product Safety Regulations 2005.

“The products have been recalled from end users. Owners should stop using affected products immediately.

“Please email Emba Cookware on info@embacookware.co.uk with your order number, contact number and details of the product that you purchased to initiate a recall.

“Once the product has been returned, consumers will be issued with a full refund.”

It follows another kitchen item being recalled after it was found to contain pieces of glass.

Kelly Loves Sushi Ginger, previously sold in Asda and Waitrose stores, was removed from shelves as some of the servings were thought to be contaminated.

Those who have already purchased the item have been urged to not consume it.
