‘Trouble ahead’ as Rangers icons Ally McCoist and Ian Durrant team up for worldwide adventure

RANGERS legends Ally McCoist and Ian Durrant were a phenomenal partnership for more than a decade at Ibrox.

The duo became the best of friends – and the best of team-mates – through the late-1980s and glory days in the 1990s.

Whether they were on the pitch or off it – they were a force to be reckoned with.

Together the midfielder and goal-scorer extraordinaire teamed up an astonishing 227 times on the pitch at both Gers and Kilmarnock and picked up 33 trophies between them.

Plus nine of their Scotland caps were earned at the same time too.

A success story on the field, they were perfect partners off it too – with their names frequently quipped together by old team-mates who shared the dressing room for their wind-ups, put-downs and banter.

And there’s plenty more where that came from it seems.

McCoist was absent from his talkSPORT breakfast radio show this morning and rather than being on the airwaves he was IN the air as he and his old pal set off on an adventure together.

The pair grinned on Wednesday night as McCoist posted a picture from the pub as the pair clutched a pint of Guinness each with the caption “Trouble ahead”.

And Durrant kept his own Instagram followers updated with a series of clips and pictures from the plane as they prepared to leave.

Sitting in plush business class cabins on the KLM flight, both players raised a glass to their travels – but didn’t give much away on where they were heading.

All Durrant would hint was “Off to explore the world me and the best” with a selfie of the two Light Blue buddies.

His in-flight screen showed windmills and Vincent van Gogh and read Amsterdam but it’s unclear if the Dutch capital is their destination or a connection point on their trip.

One thing is for sure however – the pair were in high spirits, especially after their team’s weekend result.

McCoist hailed Rangerswin over Celtic and even joked under-fire winger Vaclav Cerny should be KNIGHTED.

The Czech international was spotted sparying Celtic fans with water as he celebrated Hamza Igamane;s late goal in the Old Firm derby win.

Celtic have complained to “relevant authorities” over Gers stars “engaging” with home supporters but true to form, McCoist had hoped to use the incident for a studioo wind-up.

He told Celtic-supporting colleague Shebahn Ahearne: “You’re so lucky. My plan was when I left the hotel at the back of five [to start work] I had a skooshy bottle for you.

“I was going to bring up a skooshy bottle and give you the whole lot!

“I thought ‘how will she take it?’”

Shebahn, also seeing the funny side, joked: “That would’ve been good chat from you for a change!”

McCoist added: “As you say Shebahn, it’s the ultimate in housery.”

The cheeky Gers legend than turned his attention to one of the Celtic fans on the receiving end of the spraying water.

He said: “Give us a call, have you dried out? This is the question.”

Whether or not any action is coming Cerny’s way remains to be seen.

That was also on Townsend’s mind as he asked: “Is something going to happen?”

But McCoist couldn’t resist a further cheeky comment as he answered the question.

He said “I’d have thought so, I mean, knighthood I’d have thought, is that what you mean?”

“I like the sound of that. Sir Vaclav Cerny. It’s got a nice ring to it.”
