Ever since Paul “Triple H” Levesque took over World Wrestling Entertainment in 2022, he has been heavily praised by the locker room talent and the WWE Universe for moving in a positive direction. The CCO has been making changes that have been approved by the talent and narratives that draw fans to the show each week.
However, his management has recently come under fire because, intentionally or unintentionally, his managerial decisions have rubbed everyone the wrong way. From a lack of creative direction in the women’s division to overadvertising its sponsors, his most recent act of briefly releasing R-Truth brought him the most heat from everyone in the wrestling community.
To everyone’s surprise, the problem isn’t solved yet because Levesque is still unsure of his creative direction, and it’s most evident in Gunther’s case, failing to give him a good look.
Triple H’s bookings with its WWE Champions seem too random and formulaic
Since Vince McMahon’s forced exit from the company, Paul “Triple H” Levesque has done much good for the company, which includes making entertainment wrestling popular after its declining popularity in the COVID era. Since then business has boomed, enabling him to make several new signings in the last 3 years and healing the stars from the regressive policies of their previous boss.

However, not everything is entirely perfect in Triple H’s rule because, in recent times, fans have criticized him for choosing business over the fans. This was clearly evident because, in the recent shows, the tickets were being sold at sky-high prices, and even WrestleMania 42’s venue was moved from New Orleans to Las Vegas. But what has been a real eyesore in his reign is witnessing how Levesque’s booking abilities are not what they used to be back in the day.
Some fan-favorite wrestlers have been entirely sidelined with obscure storylines, while some were poorly booked, hampering their overall fame and abilities too. This was most evident in the recent storylines following Gunther, where he received a storyline with Pat McAfee after he tried attacking Michael Cole for voicing his opinion. After the match, his storyline for the title was dead in the water, but suddenly, weeks after no promotion, he got a title match.

What surprised everyone was The Ring General being randomly put back in the picture, but also reclaiming his title in last night’s RAW against Jey Uso. This random on-and-off picture for the prestigious WWE World Heavyweight Championship is not well-received by the fans, especially when we talk about a talent like Gunther, who has proved his in-ring prowess and microphone charisma, making him an idol for many.
Currently, the WWE titles are being held by the heel champions, John Cena and Gunther, who have the potential to become dominant champions if they are booked properly. However, the CCO has been using a constant pattern, always favoring the champion with referee bumps or interference. This pattern has now become too predictable and needs to be stopped before WWE follows in the footsteps of AEW.
The WWE Universe is divided over Gunther’s booking
Clearly, there’s no denying that the German Brute is a talented wrestler who has the ability to make every one of his matches appear as if it is a real one. He would consistently showcase his in-ring abilities, where he would not involve himself in any nuisance, or be caught performing any ridiculous high-flying moves, or use any ridiculous catchphrase.

But more importantly, his character is written in a way that brings honor and prestige to any title he holds. This has divided the WWE Universe, where some fans would tweet in favor of him while some were against him on X. The fans commented,
Triple H knowing Gunther elevates the world division is the greatest look possible in my humble and non biased opinion.

Gunther has no substance in the wwe without being in the title picture, the definition of 1 dimensional

Great look if…IF… they push him like they did when he was dominating everyone when he was the IC champion

People legit forgetting that one of the reasons Gunther’s reign became boring was because they booked him repeatedly with Jey Uso 😂

I believe this title run will be of ages. Just imagine gunther vs Bron brekker, gunther vs rollins

Nevertheless, if WWE writes a consistent storyline that features him and another wrestler who can keep up with his fierce intensity, then fans would get to see another spectacle like The Bloodline Saga, where Gunther can go on a long title reign to hand it over to another prestigious challenger.
Night of Champions will take place on June 28, 2025, at 1 PM ET on Peacock in the U.S. and Netflix internationally.
