Fans weren’t too surprised to see Tom Hiddleston in the list of cast for Avengers: Doomsday. It was earlier suggested that his role would come to an end after the emotional climax of Loki Season 2. However, if Marvel history has taught us anything, it is not to trust that it is really the end of a character, especially when it comes to Loki.
This isn’t the first time that Hiddleston was brought back into the MCU after writing him off in a previous film. However, Hiddleston has promised that he would tell the Russo brothers not to do one thing with his Loki character. Fans are excited to see the God of Stories go up against Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom.
Tom Hiddleston’s only request to Russo Brothers for Loki in Avengers: Doomsday

When Tom Hiddleston appeared on Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused podcast, he could comfortably say that he was part of Avengers: Doomsday. It wasn’t usually the case before for the actor, who had to walk on thin ice during such interviews. He shared that he didn’t know Marvel had plans for him when he wrapped up Loki Season 2.
Hiddleston shared, “I was sincere in my conviction that I thought it was the end. I wasn’t lying to you, I promise.” Horowitz further asked if he was happy with what he got to play in the upcoming Avengers film. Hiddleston said yes and hesitated to answer further, fearing he would reveal something important.
However, he added that it was an “extraordinary privilege” to be on the team even after 15 years. He shared that there were more stories to explore about Loki and his interaction with the rest of the squad as an important figure in the multiverse. Horowitz had just one suggestion to Hiddleston:
Just don’t let them kill you again. Look, if you’re going to go out at this point, just go ride off on a horse or go on a vacation. We can’t have another Loki death.
Hiddleston laughed at this suggestion and made a promise, “Okay, I’ll tell the Russos.” When asked about Robert Downey Jr.’s reentry as Doctor Doom into the MCU, Hiddleston shared that it was “absolutely extraordinary.” He shared that he didn’t know about his casting until the rest of the world learned about it. He added that he texted Kevin Feige after seeing the news.
This isn’t the first time Tom Hiddleston is making a comeback in the MCU

Marvel initially intended to let go of Hiddleston after Thor: The Dark World. Loki’s character was meant to have a conclusive end after the movie’s climax, where he was stabbed. However, test audiences hated this part, which prompted Marvel to bring him back in Thor: Ragnarok.
He later met a tragic end in Avengers: Infinity War when Thanos ruthlessly killed him. During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Hiddleston admitted that he also believed this was his final appearance in the MCU. He shared:
It felt very, very final, and I thought, ‘OK, that’s it. This is Loki’s final bow and a conclusive end to the Odinson saga.’
Kevin Feige also revealed that the Loki series was not on his mind as Endgame was in production. He shared that the Loki scene in Endgame served as nothing more than a “wrinkle” for the Avengers’ mission in the film. However, he ended up signing for the Loki series.
He later told Josh Horowitz that his most emotional goodbye was in the second season of Loki. He shared that he was “incredibly moved” during the last day on set of the series. However, it wasn’t the end for his character either.
Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to be released on December 18, 2026.
