Tom Cruise found worldwide fame and acclaim for his death wish, which included jumping from buildings, airplanes, and almost everything that you can think of.
But before all that stunt and adrenaline rush got to him, Tom Cruise often portrayed a patriotic hero in several movies like A Few Good Men, Valkyrie, Born on the Fourth of July, and more. Well, during his initial days, the actor often had to tussle with his co-stars for fame and respect, but Cruise showed that he can do it while being… a good man.
When Kevin Pollak made fun of Tom Cruise’s pen

Starring in a 1992 film, titled A Few Good Men, Tom Cruise portrayed the role of Lt. Daniel Kaffee, a US military lawyer who defends two marines who are charged with the killing of their fellow marine.
In the film, the iconic actor starred alongside veteran star Jack Nicholson and fellow iconic actor Kevin Pollak (who portrayed the role of LTJG Sam Weinberg).
When Kevin Pollak sat down for an interview with The Sun, Pollak revealed that Tom Cruise owned a large pen with which he used to write notes. That’s when the pen thing became an ongoing gig by Kevin Pollak on the sets of A Few Good Men.
I found myself saying, ‘Hey Tom, they don’t make a bigger pen? You know what, I’ll bet they do. Come on, let’s go find one.’ Tom laughed the first eleven times I made fun of the pen,
He continued,
But eventually, he said, ‘Yeah, yeah, funny – try writing with the pen.’ So I take the pen and oh Jesus, that pen was like an angel wing floating on a cloud. It had its own kind of suspension system. But I loved that pen.
Well, at that time, Kevin Pollak thought that the story of that large, beautiful pen that was like “an angel wing floating on a cloud” was over. However, Tom Cruise had other plans.
Despite being teased by the fellow actor, Cruise was never bothered by the jokes, nor did he take offence. Instead, he did something to show his companionship that only a few good men do.
Tom Cruise gifted that pen to Kevin Pollak

While on the sets of A Few Good Men, a few weeks had passed since Kevin Pollak had tried Tom Cruise’s pen and loved it. A few weeks went by, and Pollak received a gift from Cruise.
The gift wrap contained the pen that Tom Cruise had been using on the sets of A Few Good Men. Although Pollak was more than overjoyed (his mother even more for flirting with Jack Nicholson) upon receiving this gift, he never used it.
This led to more conversation between him and Tom Cruise, who asked him why he wasn’t using the pen that the Top Gun star had gifted him.
Later, I used a different pen, and Tom says, ‘Kev, where’s the pen?’ And I say, ‘Tom, I can’t use the pen! The pen goes on a mantle in my house with a pen light hitting it just right.
He further continued,
When people come to the house, Tom, I’ll point to the pen and I’ll tell them the story about the pen and it’ll be the greatest f***ing pen story they’ll ever hear! But no Tommy, I can’t, I can’t use the pen, because if I use the pen I might lose the pen and that can never f***ing happen.’
Later, when Cruise’s assistant gifted Pollak another pen, he didn’t use it either and instead, and now there are two pens on his mantlepiece. The warm and kind gesture by Cruise was certainly overbearing for Pollak, who proudly displayed the pens in his home.
A Few Good Men, which was released in 1992, currently stands at a rating of 7.7/10 on IMDb and a whopping 84% on Rotten Tomatoes. The film is hailed as one of the finest films of the ’90s.
A Few Good Men is currently available to buy on Apple TV (USA).
