Tite Kubo’s Unique Art Style Saved ‘Burn the Witch’ From Being a Rushed Disaster

The intelligent mind behind the Bleach franchise, Tite Kubo, is a legend in the business. His intelligence as a mangaka and his ability to portray a story are some of the most significant reasons why Bleach is one of the most successful anime and manga series in the world. However, Bleach is not the only manga work created by Kubo.

The Bleach mangaka has also created Burn the Witch, which came out in 2018. The manga was initially planned as a one-shot, but the fame and recognition it received led to the story being developed into a seasonal manga series. As of now, only the first season of the series, featuring four different chapters, has been released.

But a second season has been announced and is currently in development. While Burn the Witch is an intriguing story, it was somewhat criticized for having a fast-paced and complex narrative. But even after that, the series was saved by Kubo’s unique art style that helped Burn the Witch gain a lot of fame and recognition among Bleach fans.

The biggest issue with Burn the Witch’s storyline

Burn the Witch is developed in the same universe as Bleach, but it follows the story of Noel Niihashi and Ninny Spangcole. Both of them are witches who work for the western branch of Soul Society called Wing Bind. It is situated in Reverse London and deals with Dragons which are only visible to the people residing within Reverse London. Just like the Soul Society, Wing Bind is also hidden from humans.

As Burn the Witch was created after Bleach and was a part of the same universe, fans had a lot of expectations from the story. And while Burn the Witch lived up to most of these expectations, it still lacked in one aspect, and that was the storytelling.

The narrative of Burn the Witch is quite complex as it combines a new story with the elements from the Bleach universe.

And as the first part of the story is established within four chapters, the narrative feels quite rushed and fast-paced. Plus, adding the cliffhanger at the end of the story makes it feel like the narrative is all over the place. Thus, despite the entertaining story and marvelous characters, Burn the Witch needed saving.

The only aspect that saved Burn the Witch

While there is a big issue with Burn the Witch’s storyline, it still manages to make its presence among Bleach fans. They still appreciated it and are eagerly waiting for the sequel that is currently under development. The reason behind this is the brilliant art style of the Bleach creator, Tite Kubo that has earned him so much fame and recognition in the past.

Kubo’s art style is eccentric, and it is unlike anything that the anime or manga world has ever seen. It was one of the main reasons behind Bleach’s success, and the mangaka managed to not only bring the same art style back for Burn the Witch, but he also made it even better as he didn’t have the pressure that he had at the time of Bleach.

As there is no confirmation about the continuation of the Bleach storyline, Burn the Witch is the only hope for Bleach fans to feel the essence of the enchanting universe. It also has a movie based on the first four chapters, and hopefully, once the manga series continues, it might even get an anime series in the future.

Burn the Witch is currently available to watch on Amazon Prime Video.
