Luke Skywalker served as the primary protagonist of the original Star Wars trilogy. As a result, an entire generation of fans grew up with the character played by Mark Hamill, with the actor also returning for the sequel trilogy. However, fans have often voiced their displeasure with one aspect of the character’s story being left untouched.

On social media, fans discussed exploring more of Luke’s story in the visual medium, with some suggesting a TV show focusing on his journey after the events of Return of the Jedi. While most fans were on board with the idea, properly executing it would require recasting the iconic role, and one MCU actor is best suited for it. Here is how a new Luke Skywalker show could work.
Star Wars fans admit they want Disney to make a prime Luke Skywalker show
Luke Skywalker was introduced in the first installment of the Star Wars franchise, launched by George Lucas in 1977. The character’s growth and transformation into a Jedi was explored in the original trilogy. However, his peak years as a Jedi have largely been explored off-screen.

On Reddit, the franchise’s fans admitted that a solo series focusing on Luke’s peak years as a Jedi would appeal to them. The series could follow Luke’s attempts to rebuild the Jedi Order as he encounters characters from the Clone Wars era while bridging the gap to the sequel trilogy.
Here is what Star Wars fans had to say about a Luke Skywalker series set right after the original trilogy on Reddit.

Most fans commented that they were eager to watch an exploration of Luke Skywalker’s peak years, especially immediately after the conclusion of the original trilogy.
While some fans were skeptical of the idea, most were sure that the series could only work if the role of Luke was recast. However, the idea of seeing Luke explore the galaxy in the aftermath of the Empire’s downfall remains compelling despite being the subject of Timothy Zahn’s expanded universe novels.
A post-Episode 6 Star Wars show about Luke Skywalker could work with Sebastian Stan
Actor Mark Hamill has played Luke Skywalker in most of the character’s appearances, starting with the 1977 original. Hamill most recently appeared as Luke in an episode of The Mandalorian, with the use of CGI de-aging and a body double.

However, given Hamill’s age, a solo series would require the role to be entirely recast. As a result, MCU star Sebastian Stan, who has been a top fan casting to take over the role, would be an ideal pick for the part. Stan has previously expressed an interest in the role, provided he received Hamill’s blessing (via Culture Slate).
Despite this, it is unlikely that a solo Luke Skywalker series would ever materialize, especially because of the backlash faced by the sequel trilogy. Moreover, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy has stated that the studio was looking to move beyond the Skywalker family’s saga (via Vanity Fair). Hence, it remains to be seen if the best Luke Skywalker story will be made into a series.
