The Upcoming Limb Damage Tweak in Siege Gives One Operator Class a Wild Hidden Edge

Rainbow Six Siege X enters a new era starting June 10, 2025, as it goes free-to-play. Not just that, they will be bringing a plethora of changes to core gameplay, like improving sound, rappel, and more. However, it won’t be Ubisoft if there is no fumbling.

Moreover, Ubisoft has always struggled to shape Rainbow Six Siege with its gameplay and balancing changes. The same seems to be the case for the upcoming release as well, since they unintentionally buffed some operators. You might have guessed it already: It’s shield operators.

Rainbow Six Siege only took an update to go back to square one

In live-service shooter games, balancing is a must, and Rainbow Six Siege X shouldn’t be an exception. While all developers struggle with this particular thing, Ubisoft seems to be the most unmindful. If you’ve played the game throughout the years, you know what’s up.

With Rainbow Six Siege X, Ubisoft will bring a lot of changes to improve the gameplay quality. While there are many such changes, we’ll look at the effects of limb damage adjustments. Ubisoft wanted to reduce the damage taken by players if their limbs were shot. Which is a fair decision, as many would secure kills by shooting legs, and that requires no skills.

But again, that would’ve been ideal if there were no bulletproof shield protecting players from head to torso. It shouldn’t come as a surprise, but we got plenty of them in Siege. Even Blackbeard now has a massive shield that can be paired with a primary Assault Rifle!

We also got a shield equipped with LEDs, which can blind you to oblivion. An extendable shield that covers the entire body of the operator, which is annoying. So, where are we supposed to shoot? Since, head and torso are not on the menu.

The only way to eliminate shield operators has always been legs, since most of their bodies are shelled. This change in particular secretly buffs shield operators, as shooting their legs is a viable counter. If you’re a shield operator main, this might be your time to shine. Rest of you, start praying or play Oryx, the ultimate choice is yours.

Shields balancing has always been terrible in Siege

Shield used to be pretty overpowered back in the day; however, Ubisoft did their best to balance it. However, it only took them ten years, which isn’t much in terms of time. Aside from blatant sarcasm, Rainbow Six Siege X was supposed to be Ubisoft’s showcase of their quality work.

Ubisoft particularly said that Rainbow Six Siege X took them three years to build. But within these three years, did no one think about how making changes to limb damage can buff shields? That one class you’ve always struggled with? Guess not. Pretty sure the same level of attention was given to the audio overhaul as well.

Rainbow Six Siege is going free-to-play, and it will bring in new players. But we all know how bad the shield meta is in the game. If only some amount of thought had been given, a form of solution could have been brainstormed.

He’s a million-dollar idea, keep it the same for shield operators? It was pretty much balanced already? Sometimes it is hard to know what goes on in Ubisoft’s mind when it comes to making Siege better. In truth, it only makes it worse…
