Netflix’s new series from Shonda Rhimes, The Residence, is packed with several big-name stars. The murder mystery features an ensemble cast and each episode whittles down the suspects after a dead body is found in the White House. Here are some of the biggest names who make an appearance.
Uzo Aduba Takes the Lead in ‘The Residence’
Fans likely remember Uzo Aduba from her role as Suzanne “Crazy Eyes” Warren in Orange Is the New Black, but her character, Cordelia Cupp, in The Residence is a far cry from her days behind bars in the show. Uzo’s Cordelia is a legendary bird watcher whose astute observation skills make her one of the best detectives in the world. Wry, smart and endlessly confident in her abilities, Uzo’s take on Cordelia makes her instantly likeable.
Randall Park Shines in His Role as Edwin Park
Randall Park seems unable to come off as anything less than hilarious in most of his roles. He cracked fans up as “Asian Jim” in The Office, and his role as Special Agent Edwin Park in The Residence will do the same. The only difference is that Edwin’s humor seems to come from his frustration at being treated like a tagalong by Cordelia. Regardless, Randall’s deadpan delivery and facial expressions is sure to have viewers chuckling through every episode.
Giancarlo Esposito Replaced Andre Braugher in ‘The Residence’
The late Andre Braugher was originally cast in the role of A.B. Wynter, Head Usher at the White House, in The Residence, but after his tragic death in 2023, Giancarlo Esposito replaced him. Giancarlo shot to fame after his role as Gus Fring, the calm but menacing drug lord in Breaking Bad, and the actor brings that same cool and collected vibe to the Netflix whodunit. However, this time around, Giancarlo is only managing a house full of White House employees, and not drug runs.
Jason Lee Is Giving ‘My Name Is Earl Vibes’ Again
Fans might remember Jason Lee from his parts in Kevin Smith movies like Mallrats and Clerks, but the Emmy-winning My Name Is Earl likely made him a household name. Jason played Earl Hickey, a down-on-his-luck, small-time thief living in a trailer in his small town. Jason’s role as Tripp Morgan, brother of the president, has a similar aesthetic as he’s seen in the trailer wandering around the White House in a robe, not caring what people think.
Ken Marino Suits Up for ‘The Residence’
Party Down alum Ken Marino plays the president’s best friend and closest advisor, Harry Hollinger, in The Residence. Fans know from his previous roles in The Babysitter, Wet Hot American Summer and Childrens Hospital, Ken has a penchant for making everyone laugh. While Harry might not be trying to be funny, it looks like viewers might still be chuckling during his scenes.
‘SNL’ Legend Jane Curtin Leaves Her Mark in ‘The Residence’
Jane Curtin’s comedic skills are well-documented since her time on Saturday Night Live. She landed the role as Nan Cox, the mother-in-law of the president, in The Residence, but it’s unclear exactly how big of a role she has. The trailer showed Jane reacting with a scream to something she saw, but it’s likely fans will see more of her throughout the 8 episodes.
When Does ‘The Residence’ Premiere?
The Residence premieres on Netflix on March 20.
