Call of Duty games have forever captured patriotism in all their games. The franchise from Activision made sure that every player who plays their titles feels like they are actually at war and need to win no matter what. This element in their games has made the dream of serving in the military for many gamers into a reality.

There is one title in the series that wanted to make the ‘Top Gun fantasy’ come true, and it actually did not disappoint. Of course, the game we are talking about is Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. Let’s delve deeper into it.
Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare is honestly not that bad

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare came out back in November of 2016. The game developed by Infinity Ward failed to garner a huge number of players because of various reasons, including poor marketing and franchise fatigue. Despite the game having an interesting campaign and introducing some cool mechanics, it was not enough to counter the downfall of the title.
One standout feature of Infinite Warfare was the ability to pilot a fighter jet, known as Jackel. This element made the game feel like a blend of Call of Duty and Top Gun, which is a 1986 action drama film starring Tom Cruise. The entire movie is famous for its high-energy aerial dogfights. The movie became a cultural phenomenon that inspired generations of aviation enthusiasts, and it also made Tom Cruise a Hollywood superstar.
Infinite Warfare truly made the players feel like high-stake fighter pilot. In the game, players would get the cockpit POV, which created a more immersive piloting experience. Players could engage in one-on-one dog fights with the enemies, making them feel more like Pete “Maverick” Mitchell from Top Gun.
In a 2016 interview between IGN and Infinity Ward design director Jacob Minkoff, he explained that players will be fully immersed in the the experience of piloting Jackel.
It’s kind of the Top Gun fantasy, it’s your fighter that you get to upgrade and customize. You get to walk along the flight deck and have the flight crew preparing it for you and saluting you and you get into it and you fly out into these crazy missions that you chose to go to.
He also mentioned how the whole experience of flying will be a holistic sensation where players will be able to be on foot fighting on the streets to taking dogfights airborne, with a very seamless transition.
The incorporation of Jackel, made a lot of Top Gun fans happy

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare was one of the best spectacles in the series’ history. Although the game had a sort of lukewarm reception, it truly delivered on the Top Gun fantasy of the players with its airborne combat system and seamless transitions of it without any loading screens. The game is a dream come true for any fans of Maverick Mitchell who want to truly feel how its like piloting the most immersive fighter jet in the whole series.
While we are still unsure why Infinite Warfare is still hated by many Call of Duty fans, one thing we are sure of is that we loved the inclusion of dogfights in our favorite franchise. Had Inifnity Ward expanded on the mechanic or maybe even incorportad it in multiplayer then the title would’ve been one of the most groundbreaking games in the whole genre.
