The First Berserker: Khazan is about to get another post-launch update, and there’s a lot of new stuff to talk about. Developer Neople has announced big changes to the game’s difficulty structure to make the game more accessible for players who want a more casual and story-centric experience.
But don’t riot just yet, because there’s a new Hardcore difficulty mode that promises even more challenge for all you masochists out there. With Lies of P‘s new DLC and this update, it seems like both games are aware of just how difficult these games are.
The First Berserker: Khazan is getting a big quality-of-life update soon

Since launching on March 27, 2025, The First Berserker: Khazan has earned a lot of praise for its action and combat design, with many fans comparing it to games like Sekiro and Nioh. But of course, since the game does have some Soulslike aspects, it is quite difficult for the average player. Not anymore.
(Dev Note) With Gratitude: On the June Update and Our Direction

In terms of updates, Neople initially added the first one in May, and added boss rush modes and changes to customization. But it is the new June update that brings big changes to the difficulty system. Weirdly enough, Lies of P has a newly released DLC that also changes its difficulty system. Seems like both of the developers have realised just how challenging their games are.
The upcoming update completely overhauls the difficulty modes. What was once the Easy has been changed to Normal and will now serve as the standard difficulty. The existing Normal difficulty mode becomes Challenge. This should be more accurate, since, like we said, players struggled on Normal at launch.
And of course, a new difficulty below the new Normal is also being added. It will be called Beginner. According to the update page on Steam, “This new setting includes added conveniences to help players who are new to action games learn Khazan’s combat system in a more comfortable and less stressful way.“
It’s not just about making the game easy

Lies of P added a Very Easy and Easy difficulty to make the story more accessible. But with The First Berserker: Khazan, it’s not just about making the game easy for gamers who want to experience the story easily. Neople has also added a new Hardcore mode, which unlocks only after completing a playthrough on Challenge.

Like most challenge difficulty modes in games like this, the Hardcore difficulty takes away critical UI elements like enemy health and stamina bars, disables key support systems such as Spirit of Advocacy and Phantom Form, and restricts camera controls. And the most important part, once you select it, you can’t change it mid-playthrough. So choose wisely.
Outside of the changes to difficulty, the June update is packed with changes aimed at smoothing out the player experience. Combo tutorials have been added so that new players have an easier time with the game’s combat. A new Combo tab in the in-game Encyclopedia will give us all the information that we need.
Additionally, inventory management is getting a major boost. Players can now sort items by name, and storage space is expanding from 100 to 500 slots. Preset systems for skills and gear are being added as well, so that we can change between builds easily.
It looks like the developers at Neople are committed to giving the game adequate support post-launch, at least for now. And that’s great to see. Have you tried out The First Berserker: Khazan?
