Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End is unlike any anime that we have seen. Although it might seem like a generic isekai anime with a “swords and magic” setting, if you look at the visuals and the art, it is so much more.

Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End has a unique depth when it comes to storytelling. The way the characters are explored, the world-building is done, and how the emotional moments are depicted.
Unlike other anime that focus on power and growth in strength, Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End explores emotions and abstract concepts and philosophies. The series leads the viewer into a different world but will make them reminisce about time, loss, and regret.
Tears that weigh you down -Why Frieren hits so hard
Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End is not just a story about an immortal elf, it’s an exploration of time, of logging and regret, of pursuing the truth that eludes all living beings and understanding the purpose of life.
It seems extremely complex that such themes, which would usually take a deep exploration of philosophy from an extremely massive book, would be condensed into a narrative that draws the viewer in, making them explore and think deeply about themselves.
Why am i crying every episode of Frieren

Frieren is a masterclass in storytelling
There are some moments, like Himmel’s death and his longing for Frieren when she was pursuing magic, which are relatable to all.

Everyone has lost someone, and during such a time, we seek the answers that are just not there. The purpose and meaning of life and the cruelty of time are not lost on any adult.

What makes Frieren stand out isn’t just its emotional weight but the way it creates a paradox within its storytelling, pulling those buried emotions within you and unburdening the heavy heart.

The way Frieren grows up, matures, and realizes that although time has not affected her, her companions are all old or gone. This includes Himmel, the party leader who had an immense amount of affection for Frieren and waited silently for her return, only to pass away with regrets.
Yet, the sadness in Frieren isn’t overwhelming. It’s a sorrow that coexists with hope. The fact that there is meaning and magic, the fact that life is here, in the present and not in the distant future or the past days, hits the viewers with the same epiphanies and realizations that affect the immortal elf.
