Throughout Game of Thrones’ eight-season run, fans and critics faced a whirlwind of drama that proved why this is the ultimate television experience. It captivated millions of fans across the globe, uniting them through a shared interest in the story created by George R.R. Martin.
Among the installments, we had our favorite scenes, episodes, and even seasons—some of which contained the most intense confrontations and battles. Season 6 is undoubtedly famous because of the much-talked-about Battle of the Bastards, but it is not the best.
Season 6 isn’t Game of Thrones’ greatest installment

There’s no denying that Season 6 offered us one of the highest-rated episodes of all time. Battle of the Bastards was the spectacular duel scene at Winterfell between House Bolton, Umber, and Karstark led by Ramsay Bolton, versus the Free Folk and the Night’s Watch led by Jon Snow.
It featured monumental battle sequences that shaped the narrative of Game of Thrones. This is not the only unforgettable storyline in Season 6. We also had the highly anticipated resurrection of Jon Snow and the destruction of the Sept of Baelor by wildfire courtesy of Cersei Lannister.
All these events unfolding in one season were truly a gift for the audience, earning the installment a staggering 94% score on Rotten Tomatoes. If you think this is already the peak of Game of Thrones, here’s the good news—Season 4 was even better.
The most sensational installment of the hit fantasy series took place in 2014. Both critics and fans lauded it for its thrilling ride from start to finish. The amount of chaos, suspense, blood, horror, and betrayal was almost intoxicating.

In the fourth saga, we witnessed the aftermath of the infamous Red Wedding that took place in Season 3. House Stark was in disarray, and not long after that came the much-celebrated Purple Wedding that saw the death of Joffrey Baratheon.
The harrowing events were followed by Daenerys Targaryen’s arrival at Meereen, installing herself as the new queen. She was faced with several challenges, including governing the city and controlling her dragons.
Let’s not forget this season gave us The Mountain and the Viper, which saw the bloody duel between Ser Gregor Clegane and Oberyn Martell, the latter meeting his creator after a skull-crushing death.
Its impressive 97% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes reflects how fans and critics feel about this season. This was where the storytelling and overall production hit its apex.
Game of Thrones Season 4 witnessed award-winning acting

Season 4 saw some of the most compelling acts from the ensemble cast. Peter Dinklage went on to win an Emmy for his outstanding performance as Tyrion Lannister. It also debuted Pedro Pascal into the Hollywood mainstream, providing the stepping stone for his career.
For this part, the showrunners have done a wonderful job adapting the source material to the screen. It’s no secret that the earlier seasons were some of their best works, and it’s only a shame that the quality of the scripts declined towards the latter seasons.
Six years after wrapping up, the show remains one of the most highly successful projects ever produced for television, influencing tons of other shows that tried to follow in its footsteps.
Game of Thrones is currently available to watch on HBO Max.
