Jensen Ackles was not sold on the finale of Supernatural when he first read it. It must be noted that Supernatural came to an end after 15 seasons, with Jared Padalecki and Ackles playing their respective characters for well over a decade. Dean Winchester famously died in the episode, apparently for good, given that Sam Winchester had a full life after him.

Ackles describes feeling ‘uneasy’ after the first time he was exposed to the nature of the finale, which makes sense, given how long the actor had played the character. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, he revealed what he exactly felt about the finale, and how he eventually came around to saying goodbye to the show.
Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles were told to take the finale as is or leave it

Jensen Ackles revealed to Entertainment Weekly what exactly his first exposure to the finale was. Not only did he come off from it a little uneasy, but apparently Padalecki and Ackles were also told that the finale was all they had. He said,
It was like, this is what we have, take it or leave it. And I just walked out of there kind of uneasy. I don’t know if it was just the fact that I just heard the ending of a show that had been going for 15 years and I’m just too close to it to really accept a finality to it.
However, the actors eventually came around to the end, thanks to some input from show creator Eric Kripke. The creator was instrumental in bringing Jensen Ackles around to the finale, which saw the show take a very different route, straight up killing off Dean Winchester.
However, fans were happy with how the show ended. Kripke is also looking to re-unite the Winchester brothers in his other smash hit project, The Boys, which already has Ackles in the role of Soldier Boy.
How will Jensen Ackles’ Soldier Boy factor into the final season of The Boys?

Soldier Boy has been teased as an important part of Homelander’s story in the final episode of Season 4. Homelander is now largely in charge of the United States of America, as he is the most powerful person on the planet, legally and physically. Soldier Boy was key to defeating the character in the past but was subdued by Queen Maeve, who has lost her powers. Soldier Boy himself holds a lot of interest in Homelander, being the closest thing that he has to a family in the universe, apart from Ryan.
The character has always been keen on receiving familial love, and he bases a lot of his personality on receiving validation, whether it be in the form of personal love or public adoration. It remains to be seen how Soldier Boy will be positioned in the show, whether he will be an ally to Homelander to fight Butcher, who betrayed him, or he will side with Butcher to complete the deal that he made with the character.
The Boys can be streamed on Prime Video.
