Spy x Family is known for its uniqueness and creativity not only in anime but also in manga. Wit Studio and CloverWorks definitely do a phenomenal job animating visually stunning seasons, and the manga also sports a very distinct art style.

However, a franchise that is known for such attributes is now getting a third season that does not reflect their usual imaginativeness. The key visual for season 3 of Spy x Family is not at all impressing fans who expected a lot more from it.
If we compare these with the key visuals of season 2 or even the manga covers, we will see how drastically they have downgraded. Needless to say, fans are definitely very excited about the new season, but they are also concerned about how things will go if the very first promotional material lacks depth.
Spy x Family manga covers reflect the genius of Tatsuya Endo
Tatsuya Endo’s art style is unlike what we have seen in any anime before because of its very uncommon characteristics. He has a clarity in his art that gives a crisp and sophisticated vibe which perfectly matches the vintage theme of his story.
His manga covers reflect the same minimalism, but they also have very layered and deep meanings that convey something about his characters. Every cover has one character sitting on a chair that mirrors their personality with things strewn all around the floor that again tie to their work.
For example, the cover of volume 5 has Yuri Briar sitting comfortably in his work attire as a State Security Service officer. In his hand, we see a flower bouquet that symbolizes his love for his sister, as it is definitely for Yor.
But, we also see devices like a gun, handcuffs, and headphones underneath the chair that showcase him leading a double life that no one, especially his sister, knows about.
The individualistic nature of these covers not only builds anticipation but also proves just how much thought has gone behind the creation of these. However, can we say the same for the promotional materials of season 3?
The anime usually enhances the manga, but maybe not this time

Wit Studio and CloverWorks usually expand on the source material and add their own touch to the storyline, enhancing the watching experience. They also give the same treatment to promotional materials that they release before every season to generate buzz among fans for the upcoming episodes.
However, this time, the covers are not only bland and unimaginative but also look like a demoted version of the manga covers. Here, we see the four main characters of the Forger family just standing in their usual grey background, but without any originality that the manga covers display.

It does not give out any extra information about the characters or what we can expect from the new season. Even the key visual for Spy x Family season 2 had bursts of colors with scenarios of the characters doing something that screamed their presence.
This kind of rare misstep is making fans apprehensive about the anime quality. However, the studios have a great track record, so let’s hope it will not be a problem for them to produce a satisfactory third season.
Watch Spy x Family on Netflix.
