While everyone is wondering about the details of how Dakota Johnson and Chris Martin reportedly broke up for good, fans are also wondering something else: are Johnson and Gwyneth Paltrow going to stay friends?
Sources recently told People that, despite the breakup, Paltrow “fully intends on maintaining that bond. [They] have grown close over the years and Gwyneth even considers Dakota family.”
They added, “There’s a genuine mutual respect between Gwyneth and Dakota, and they have a lot in common. They both grew up in the spotlight, have been in the business for years, and really relate to each other’s experiences.”

Back in 2022, Paltrow was asked by a fan (let’s face it, a lot of fans probably asked this) about her true feelings about Johnson, saying, “Do you love Dakota Johnson?” Paltrow replied simply by saying, “Very much,” per People.
And in case you wanted to know more about Paltrow and Johnson’s relationship, Paltrow said in a Q&A on her Instagram story: “We’re actually very good friends. I love her so much, calling Johnson “an adorable, wonderful person.”

For those who don’t know, Johnson and Martin started dating in 2017 after being set up by mutual friends, and seven years later, they seem more in love than ever. They didn’t confirm their relationship until a year later, and they moved in together in 2021.
While we don’t know the exact time they got engaged, many sources claim it was years ago, but the two aren’t eager to set a date yet (despite what Paltrow allegedly wanted).
In fact, in 2024, insiders told Heat World UK that Paltrow really wanted the two down the aisle.
“Things have been up and down between Chris and Dakota. They’re trying to work things out on their own, but Gwyneth is determined for them to get married ASAP,” she said.
Sadly, Martin and Johnson have seemingly called it quits for good in June 2025.
