Barring the glazers and the haters, one thing is certain. While the series’ win disappointed many fandoms, it only validates its towering influence in the shonen genre. But on the whole, most fans cannot refute the Dragon Ball-esque impact it still holds in the manhwa space.
Chugong’s series is the “Dragon Ball” of manhwa
Dragon Ball as we all know is one of the most iconic and legendary manga in the Shonen genre. It pioneered tropes, yes, but it also inspired the Big 3 of Jump’s shonen that is Naruto, Bleach, and One Piece. Toriyama sensei’s work is considered to be the “Father of the Big 3” for various reasons.
Chugong’s manhwa, too, is pivotal in boosting manhwa and its significance through its exponential success. Does that mean there hasn’t been a single influential manhwa? Well, technically, there’s Noblesse which was all the rage for its interesting premise but Solo Leveling takes the cake.
