‘Solo Leveling’ Is Close to Crossing the Thin Line Between Cliffhangers and Abrupt Endings

Solo Leveling is all the buzz and we’re all here for it. The season-2, especially, is notched up in every sense, but it’s the fights we all live for. Indeed, the studio went above and beyond to give us visually stunning scenes. But the recent episode left a bad taste in the mouth mainly because of the ending.

And while we all love a cliffhanger, the makers might have confused abrupt endings with them. For fans, this was pretty much predictable considering this ain’t the first time they did this. But what they also did was leave fans on pins and needles as the series gears up for the Season finale.

Abrupt endings or cliffhangers?

Mystery is a key part of any story, which keeps the readers hooked on to the plot. It is this element of surprise that decides whether a reader or a viewer is emotionally invested or not. But it is always a hit or miss. Too much suspense, and people lose interest. Too little and people call it mainstream.

Solo Leveling has been doing this pretty much with almost every episode through cliffhangers. They’re common yet important to make a smooth conclusion to the series. But sometimes they might be too predictable and come off as an abrupt ending.

This is precisely what happened with the recent episode. The episode 10 is something that was off the charts in terms of the fights. Normally we’d expect the makers to pull off an aura farm scene but this time they let Cha Hae-in shine. Her combat proved that she is anything but a mere showpiece.

Interestingly, the episode didn’t hold back on the gore, especially with the ending scene. With Shimizu being decapitated, it was one of the most shocking moments in the series. It did pave the way for lollipop memes as well, but the episode ended with an interesting speculation.

With Shimizu’s gory end, the ants swarmed, and it only showed us a pair of eyes. As she is unalived before Yoonho’s eyes, he stands in shock and disbelief. Her toying around with Yoonho during her last moments was annoying to some.

However, the abrupt cut was not something the fans were ready for. It was all bloody and gory and truly, the studio went ahead with the idea. It didn’t disappoint the fans in any case. The ending of the episode only means one thing. The series is all set to level up for the season finale.

Solo Leveling is leveling up for the season finale

Solo Leveling is gaining momentum and is all set for the season finale, especially with how things concluded in Episode 10. We get a glimpse of what looked like Beru’s eyes, but one thing is certain. Fans cannot wait for the fight between him and Jinwoo.

Although the arc is well-paced, the makers did exclude most of the part from the manhwa in the episode. Goto being intimidated by Jinwoo’s powers was omitted from the episode along with the kicks. There are several anime-only scenes as well.

For instance, the episode showed the Ant King’s birth, which, compared to the manhwa, is rather fleshed out. Like cliffhangers, some elements are a hit or miss if they’re not done properly, and that includes anime-only scenes. This adds conclusivity to the arc, but it is also so well done.

In all seriousness, it is something most fans would call it peak cinema however the finale is only going to be more legendary for both readers and viewers.

Solo Leveling is available for streaming on Crunchyroll. The manga is available for reading on Tapas.
