‘Solo Leveling’ has an Unfair Advantage Over ‘One Piece’ That Made Its Win Almost Inevitable

Solo Leveling has broken the Internet plenty of times with its episodes. Ever since season 2 began airing, the anime has completely dominated the Winter 2025 scenario. With the absence of One Piece, there are hardly any series that can go against Solo Leveling at the moment.

Needless to say, the anime is trending harder than any other anime at the moment. And it was bound to reflect on its ratings at some point. However, not many people could have predicted Solo Leveling to have surpassed one of the Big Three.

To put things into perspective, One Piece has received above 1100 episodes to date. Solo Leveling, on the other hand, has 2 seasons spanning 24 episodes. Besides, One Piece is one of the Big Three in the anime world, with unbeatable popularity and influence on the Shonen genre.

Yet, recently, Solo Leveling surpassed One Piece in terms of ratings. At the time of writing this article, Solo Leveling sits at 611k reviews with a rating of 4.9/5. One Piece, on the other hand, has 599k reviews with a 4.8/5 rating. Thus, Solo Leveling has officially beaten One Piece on Crunchyroll.

On My Anime List, Solo Leveling has gained a rating of 8.28. One Piece has an 8.73 rating. So far, Solo Leveling has only gained the upper hand on One Piece on Crunchyroll. But how could an anime that only debuted in 2024 gain so much popularity and reviews in such a short amount of time?

Solo Leveling is a Crunchyroll-exclusive anime. It means that the anime cannot be streamed on any other streaming platform except Crunchyroll. Even when it is available on other platforms, it is in very few areas. Thus, a majority of fans resort to Crunchyroll for episodes, as it’s the first platform where new episodes are dropped.

One Piece, on the other hand, can be streamed on Crunchyroll, Netflix, Pluto, Hulu, and Disney+, to name a few. Thus, its views are divided, and fans rate the anime on sites other than Crunchyroll because it isn’t the sole streaming platform. Solo Leveling has a clear advantage of all its reviews being concentrated on Crunchyroll alone.

Additionally, plenty of fans prefer to watch One Piece by pirating it, which does not contribute to the ratings on official platforms. But Solo Leveling’s new episodes are harder to find on pirating sites and episodes are released a few hours after its Crunchyroll debut. Thus, fans prefer to stream it on Crunchyroll. All of these factors together contribute to Solo Leveling‘s increased ratings. However, on MAL, Solo Leveling is still quite behind One Piece.

One Piece and Solo Leveling anime are available to stream on Crunchyroll.
