It turns out that royal staff has a running joke about Prince William, including how his “tantrums” make him like Princess Catherine of Wales, better known as Kate Middleton‘s “fourth child.”
In an interview with Fox News, Yes, Ma’am: The Secret Life of Royal Servants author Tom Quinn dropped a pretty big allegation about what William is like behind closed doors, specifically what staff says about him.
“Occasionally, William has little tantrums and irritations if things aren’t done the way he wants them done [as heir to the British throne]. But Kate is very good at managing that in the same way that she manages the tantrums of their three children: Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis,” he said to the outlet. “And so, there’s a joke among the staff that Kate treats William as the fourth because he occasionally behaves like one.”
Yikes. Well, we do know that the royal staff can have quite a few harsh nicknames for people. (We still remember the one they allegedly gave Meghan Markle: “Duchess Difficult.”)
He added, “When Kate and William first got together, William tended to have tantrums if things didn’t go his way because he was still this emotionally needy child who grew up into an emotionally needy adult.”

Now, this isn’t the first time Quinn has shattered the picture-perfect image the Wales couple has curated. Back in 2023, when he was promoting his book Gilded Youth: An Intimate History of Growing Up in the Royal Family, he shared with the Express about the couples’ fights.
“Someone who worked for Kensington Palace told me they do have rows. It’s not a perfect marriage. They have terrific rows,” he said. “Where some couples have a row and throw heavy vases at each other, William and Kate throw cushions at each other. It’s always kept under control.”

For those who don’t know, Kate and William met back in the early 2000s, and later married in April 2011. They share three children together named George, born in July 2013, Charlotte, born in May 2015, and Louis, born in April 2018. While there are some bumps behind closed doors, it’s clear they’re quite in love, and William’s 2025 birthday post for Kate proves that.
Back in Jan 9, William shared a photo of Kate with the caption reading, “To the most incredible wife and mother. The strength you’ve shown over the last year has been remarkable. George, Charlotte, Louis and I are so proud of you. Happy Birthday, Catherine. We love you. W.” You can see the post HERE!
