Roy Keane tried to put me in a HIGHCHAIR during contract talks reveals ex-Celtic star

ROY KEANE was, and still is, as fierce as they come in football.

But one former Celtic star has lifted the lid on the Man Utd legend’s funny side – even if the moment was at HIS expense.

Ross Wallace came through the youth ranks at Parkhead and broke into the first team in 2002.

He would go on to make 52 appearances for the Hoops in all competitions, winning all three major domestic honours.

During his final six months at Celtic Park, towards the end of the 2005/06 season, Wallace could count Roy Keane as a teammate.

The legendary midfielder had joined the Hoops, his boyhood club.

But Keane’s time at Celtic would be short-lived as he retired from playing at the end of the season.

He wasn’t out of football for long, however, and was appointed Sunderland manager in August 2006.

Just a few days after taking charge, Keane raided his former club to sign both Wallace and teammate Stanislav Varga.

Wallace would go on to spend three years at Sunderland and was part of the side that secured promotion to the Premier League in Keane’s first season as boss.

And he’s lifted the lid on how Keane broke the ice when they reunited in England as they held discussions over his contract.

Wallace told Undr the Cosh: “We went and met – Roy was staying at the Ramside hotel – but I think he had a farmhouse right at the back of it.

“So you’ve got me, my agent and obviously Roy and Tony Loughlan, the first team coach.

“He’s got like three chairs and I’m like (arms outstretched).

“So my agent has sat down, Roy and Tony.

“So he’s like ‘ah, sorry Ross, I’ll get you a chair.

“He goes through to the kitchen and brings through a highchair.

“It was just pure straight face, he just carries it through and then he tries to lift me into it.

“He picks me up and he’s trying to put me in it!”

With Wallace standing at 5ft6, it was perhaps a cheeky barb from Keane directed towards the winger’s stature.
