Regé-Jean Page responds to Bond rumours after co-star backs him and reveals if he will return to Bridgerton

Bridgerton quickly became a fan favourite and won accolades from viewers to critics alike as they all fell in love with the show.

The programme’s current starring cast includes Adjoa Andoh, Derry Girls‘ Nicola Coughan and Broadchurch‘s Jonathan Bailey.

The legendary Dame Julie Andrews features in the show in a vocal capacity, voicing the character of Lady Whistledow.

But viewers quickly fell in love with Regé-Jean and his character, the Duke of Hastings, when season 1 of the Netflix drama premiered in 2020.

His streamy onscreen romance with Phoebe Dynevor‘s Daphne Bridgerton ended when the couple worked out their issues and welcomed their son, Augie, in the season finale.

However, fans were gutted when Netflix later announced that Regé-Jean would not be reprising his role in season two.

Now, Regé-Jean has given an update on the question if he will ever return.

He told Entertainment Tonight: ““I’m very happy to support everyone who’s in the show.

“Everyone’s finding fantastic success but with the show and personal projects, I’m just super happy to say that.”

The news comes after Netflix announced three new cast members joining the fan favourite as they begin filming the fourth series.

Katie Leung is taking on the role of Lady Araminta Gun in upcoming episodes.

According to her character description, she is: “Twice married and twice widowed, Araminta has two girls debuting on the marriage mart this season and is feeling the pressure to get at least one of them married off.”

Also joining the cast is Michelle Mao, who set to portray Rosamund Li.

The character of Rosamund is described as: “Beautiful, vain, and eager to please her mother, Rosamund is Araminta’s eldest daughter and most prized possession.”

Having soon set her sights on Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson), will there be a new love match?

Completing the onscreen family is Isabella Wei, in the role of Rosamund’s younger sister, Posy Li.

Described as “much kinder”, Posy receives the spotlight from her mother much less due to her chatty, friendly demeanour often resulting in putting her foot in her mouth.

Now on the marriage market like her sister, will Posy be able to find a husband?

Regé-Jean was rumoured to be signed up for Bond after he made the sudden announcement he’d not be returning for season two of the sexy period drama back in 2020.

And he is still one of the recurring names that keep coming up for which actor could take over the James Bond role.

Michael Fassbender, Page’s Black Bag co-star, has been one of the many names being bet on to take over as the new face of the 007 franchise, joining ranks including James Norton, Gangs of London’s Joe Cole, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Babygirl star Harris Dickinson.

But rather than take up the challenge, Michael revealed who he would like to take on the role while promoting his latest movie, Black Bag.

“Well, I think Regé-Jean Page could be a frontrunner after this, to be honest,” he told US Weekly.

“I think he’s fantastic. He’s got all the attributes. So, let’s wait and see.”

Naomie Harris, who herself has been part of the 007 world as Miss Moneypenny backed that thought up.

She starred in three of the Bond movies alongside Daniel Craig, who gave up his role with his final appearance in 2022’s No Time To Die.

“I think Regé would be amazing,” she said.

“I’d love Regé to be the next James Bond. But who knows? I don’t know what’s going to happen.”

However, now, Regé-Jean told Entertainment Tonight: “It’s not something I’ve thought about very much.”

He then explained he is focusing on his current projects instead.

In the spy thriller Black Bag, Regé-Jean plays the role of Col. James Stokes and stars alongside Cate Blanchett, Naomie Harris, Michael Fassbender and former 007 Pierce Brosnan.
