Crime dramas are a treat to watch, but they don’t always hit the mark. Case in point: Scott Caan’s Alert: Missing Persons Unit. Sure, it might be someone’s guilty pleasure, but the critics all agree that the series isn’t really something to remember. Despite being created by superstars John Eisendrath and Jamie Foxx, the show failed to impress critics and even the audience.
After three seasons, Alert has been canceled by Fox, and honestly, some are wondering how the show even made it to a third season. For those few who actually enjoyed the series, here’s the real reason why the crime drama had to come to an abrupt end.
Alert: Missing Persons Unit: The Scott Caan starrer gets axed

Fox recently announced its decision to drop two shows from the network, Alert and The Cleaning Lady. Those who have been following the series will agree that the decision doesn’t really blindside viewers as they probably have been expecting this for some time now, considering the ratings.
As per Deadline‘s report, Alert, The Cleaning Lady, and two other shows that have not been picked up by the network for another season, Accused and The Great North, were at the lower end of Fox’s 2024-25 season rankings.
As for why Fox chose to cancel Alert, the report states that the ratings were just not in the crime drama’s favor. They apparently tried really hard to work something out to keep the show going, as the network liked Scott Caan in the lead role as well as Alert‘s evolution into a buddy-cop story.
Ultimately, things didn’t work out in the show’s favor, and no matter how great Caan was at playing Detective Jason Grant.
Taking a look at the ratings, Season One has a low score of 29% on Rotten Tomatoes, while the audience rated it 33%. Despite the bad reception, the show got a little better with each season, with fans praising the evolution of writing over the years. Unfortunately, it all happened a little too late, and Alert‘s time has officially come to an end. Take a look at some other shows that were cancelled this year.
Viewers react to Alert: Missing Persons Unit‘s cancellation

Okay, maybe Alert was not everyone’s cup of tea, but there were still a handful of few who actually enjoyed watching the Philadelphia Police Department’s Missing Persons Unit get to work, all while two officers/ex-spouses simultaneously try to find out the truth about their missing son.
Thus, it is safe to say that not everyone is on board with the show getting cancelled, especially after they killed off Dania Ramirez’s Nikki at the start of Season 3, another decision that enraged the fans.
Take a look at how some fans are reacting to the news:
Alert got canceled?!!! WHAT THE FUCK KILLING NIKKI OFF IS THE REASON FOR THIS SHIT #AlertOnFOX pic.twitter.com/BNMEpTjzDk

Alert may not have delivered critically, but it clearly struck a chord with a niche audience who will now be left wondering what could’ve been. Still, as much as fans might protest, the truth is that TV is a business, and in the end, numbers speak louder than loyalty.
Stream Alert: Missing Persons Unit on Prime Video or Hulu.
