Rangers beat Celtic 3-2 at Parkhead on Sunday, securing a first win at the home of their city rivals since 2020.
The Gers raced into a two-goal first-half lead before the Hoops hit back to level in a frenetic second-half.
But with just a couple of minutes left on the clock, Hamza Igamane fired a dramatic winner to send the visiting Rangers fans wild.
But the huge celebrations weren’t confined to the stands.
Igamane’s strike saw the Rangers bench erupt in celebration, too, with some of the subs running down towards the corner where the players were celebrating.
Cerny had been replaced by this point and TV cameras caught the moment he flew out of the bench, before spraying water in the direction of the Celtic fans sat next to the dugout.
That sparked a furious reaction from the supporters in the vicinity, with police and stewards forced to step in to try and calm things down.
The incident has dominated the fallout from the clash with Cerny at the centre of the controversy.
Police Scotland confirmed to the Scottish Sun that they were probing the incident after ‘receiving information.’
In a statement, Celtic said they had “raised concerns regarding members of the away team engaging with Celtic supporters with the relevant authorities.”
Amid the scrutiny, Cerny has headed-off on international duty.
He’s part of the Czech Republic squad that will kick-off their 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign over the next week.
Now, 27-year old Cerny has spoken on the derby day drama for the first time.
The on-loan Wolfsburg ace has revealed he finds the situation ‘absurd’ – and also appeared to indicate that his actions were NOT intentional.
As reported by the Daily Record, Cerny told Czech outlet iSport Blesk: “I don’t want to say too much, I can’t. I find it a bit absurd.
“The stands are so close, to have open water… I didn’t even know what was happening at that moment.
“I just ran. It’s a derby.”
Separate footage also appeared to show Cerny’s teammate Nedim Bajrami also squirting water in the direction of the home supporters.
This, too, took place as the Rangers players celebrated Igamane’s goal.
Several objects could also be seen being thrown in the direction of the Gers stars from the stands.
