Kaizer Chiefs could be set to be priced out once again, in their pursuit of top striker target Fiston Mayele.
Mayele has been the top target for coach Nasreddine Nabi, who’s made it no secret that he wants him at Chiefs.
Chiefs interested in Mayele
The two have a long standing working relationship together, having formed a bond while Yanga SC. It was therefore, no surprise they were linked with a reunion at Chiefs last season. While at the Tanzanian giants, Nabi relied on Mayele as his top striker and the DRC international duly obliged. Furthermore, they went on to win a double treble together, also reaching the CAF Confederation Cup final. After the 2022/23 season, both parties left Timu Ya Wananchi and went their separate ways.
It was reported earlier that Chiefs were hopeful this time of signing Mayele. But now the latest sign seem less promising. According to KickOff.com, citing North African reports, Pyramids FC are keen to keep the DRC international. So much so that they’re willing to pay him R74 million to renew his contract!
R74 million offer to end Amakhosi pursuit?
“Mayele’s career with Pyramids FC will end at the end of the current season. The player will leave after the Zamalek and Pyramids match in the Egypt Cup final. Mayele has received incredible offers, offers exceeding $3 million (R55 million) and reaching $4 million (R74 million) per season. The player is receiving $1 million per season from Pyramids, but he completely refuses to continue. Pyramids Club, in appreciation of the player and the fact that he is the top scorer in the African Champions League and was one of the reasons the team won the championship.” Said El-Ghandour said per Almasryalyoum.
