As royal fans know all too well, the Trooping the Colour, which is taking place today on Saturday, June 14, is one of the biggest royal events of the year. Every year, senior royal family members reunite on the balcony in Buckingham Palace, wave to fans, and watch a fly-past of the Royal Air Force go by.
But as King Charles III, Queen Camilla, Prince William, Kate Middleton, and their three adorable kids get ready for the appearance, fans might be asking themselves where Meghan Markle and Prince Harry will be. And, perhaps unsurprisingly, the Sussexes won’t be attending for the third time in a row.
Markle and Harry initially had other plans on the same day as Trooping the Colour but those have since been derailed.
Per People, Markle was going to be honored for her work championing women and underserved communities at the Natural History Museums of Los Angeles County’s Night of Wonder gala on Saturday, June 14.
“We are proud to honor Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, a native Angeleno, whose work to advance community wellbeing and expand opportunity — especially for underserved communities — aligns with our equity-focused approach to developing science literacy for the next generation, including through our STEM and STEAM Pathways programs,” Dr. Lori Bettison-Varga, President and Director of NHMLAC, said in a statement.
With that said, however, the Gala has since been postponed amid immigration protests across the city.
So while Markle might not be celebrating an award like she initially planned, she won’t be taking the balcony with Harry anytime soon.
According to People, their absence is also because, to put it simply, they weren’t invited. Per the outlet, Charles and his youngest son Harry have further strained their relationship since Harry’s legal bid to reinstate his state-funded security in the U.K. While he lost the battle in May 2025, he continued to open up about his relationship with the royals and his worries for his family’s security in an interview with the BBC.
As a reminder, the last time Harry and Markle attended Trooping was during the late Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee in June 2022, where they were noticeably kept out of the public spotlight. Their last Trooping the Colour was in 2019, a few months before they took a step back from being working royals.
