Police spokesperson Captain Joseph Swartbooi confirmed the timeline of the events, stating that officers arrived at the scene at approximately 12:15 p.m. “Upon arrival in Piet Retief Street at about 12:15, they discovered the body of a man inside a motor vehicle. The victim, aged 73, was declared deceased on the scene by the medical personnel,” Swartbooi said.
The initial investigation revealed signs that the victim may have been targeted during a robbery. The motive behind the attack is still under investigation, but robbery appears to be the leading theory at this time.
