One Piece: Oda Just Setup Loki’s Heroic Return With the Most Twisted Devil Fruit Power That Luffy, Zoro, and Sanji Can’t Beat

[spoilers]

The new leaks for Chapter 1143 are out for One Piece’s manga. While everyone complains about how short Loki and Luffy’s destined fight was, Shepherd Sommers has a Devil Fruit no one could’ve predicted. It’s unclear how the Elbaphians will bring the children to safety after this.

In the latest chapter, it’s revealed that the controlled children can’t be touched because of Saint Sommers’ Devil Fruit. Meanwhile, the nightmares were indeed manifested by Saint Killingham’s Devil Fruit, the Dragon-Dragon Fruit, Model: Qilin, as predicted.

The chapter ends on a cliffhanger that Loki either didn’t kill his dad or it wasn’t because he wanted to. It seems like theories were right that he might be a good person after all and instead help the children free from Sommers’ thorns. One Piece is picking up the pace now.

What is Sommers’ Devil Fruit and why is it dangerous, even for the Straw Hats?

Saint Sommers’ Devil Fruit is the Iba Iba no Mi. He can put thorns around his targets. Others, especially loved ones, cannot remove or touch them because the more you love them, the more it hurts.

Every Elbaphian who tried to free the children couldn’t even lay a hand. Even in Chapter 1142, when Sanjuan Wolf was heavily injured and warned Jaguar D. Saul to not touch them. It’s clear Sommers’ thorns are incredibly powerful. Their loved ones cannot save them or break them out of this stupor.

If the Straw Hat Pirates try to interfere, however, Sommers could begin to target them. Freeing each other isn’t an option unless they really despise each other.

We know that’s not the case, especially for “Black Leg” Sanji who is ever the lover boy. Luffy or another Straw Hat might power through the pain and save each other but it can’t be that easy.

There must be a loophole against Sommers’ Devil Fruit. A possible way to counter it is to defeat the source, which is God’s Knight himself. Usopp scared Sugar to unconsciousness in the Dressrosa Arc and her Devil Fruit’s powers were nullified.

The way the Elbaph Arc is going, however, doesn’t seem like the Straw Hat Pirates will be the saviors. It’s deliberately setting up Loki as its hidden hero.

Loki will defeat Saint Sommers and redeem himself

The Accursed Prince is rather detached from Elbaph since they all labeled him a shame and he’s been imprisoned for 6 years. Everyone is scared of his powers and the chaos he brings. Sure, he was injured by one weak punch by Luffy, but as Zoro said, he was already in a near-death state.

Loki might regain his full strength, thanks to Gerd’s medical skills, and make his comeback. However, the twist could be that he never lost any love for the people of Elbaph. It’s almost confirmed Harald did something evil which made Loki kill him so it’s possible everything he does is for Elbaph’s sake.

Of course, he can always defeat Sommers himself. He now has every right to retaliate against the God’s Knights since they put him in a near-death state.

One Piece’s Elbaph Arc is getting more and more interesting, especially the nature of Loki’s character. He doesn’t even need a Devil Fruit and Eiichiro Oda has created a new twist on the Trickster God. Every trick he does is for the people he loves.
