One Piece: Luffy Has Already Surpassed Shanks With His Most Fearsome Ability That’s Not Gear 5

The various powers that characters can have in One Piece are terrifying and make fans more curious than they already are, especially with rare skills only a select few have. Luffy, as the protagonist, is equipped with most of them. The revelations are always a surprise to us, but none shocked us more than the Voice of All Things.

The Voice of All Things is an incredibly rare ability, even more so than Conqueror’s Haki. The first mention of it occurred in the Sabaody Arc by Silvers Rayleigh, explaining how Roger could “hear” the Poneglyphs.

Later in One Piece, there were hints Luffy had to it too, and it was confirmed when he heard Zunesha calling out for help. Does this ability make him more dangerous than Shanks?

The Voice of All Things could enhance Luffy’s perception of others in One Piece

As previously mentioned, we know barely anything about this unique and rare ability. Eiichiro Oda loves to keep parts of his storylines as a mystery until it’s the right time to reveal them. Voice of All Things is just one of many that we don’t understand, despite the amount of time that’s passed.

So, how does the ability work? The user can hear objects, animals, and people without a physical message being relayed to them. That’s how Luffy and Momonosuke understood Zunesha’s cries, while the citizens of Zou have not been able to communicate with the giant elephant at all. The Sea Kings also seemed to believe the protagonist understood them a bit.

Moreover, according to Rayleigh, Gol D. Roger could hear the Poneglyphs and get the gist of what it might be saying, but this didn’t mean Voice of All Things could allow the user to translate it properly.

Big Mom believes Pudding, as a Three-Eye Tribe member, should be able to, but she might be in for a rude awakening. It’s just the voice of an object, similar to how Zoro perceives the breath of objects. The Voice of All Things, overall, seems to heighten the user’s perception of everything around them.

Fans of One Piece theorize it could be on a level higher than Haki, particularly Observation Haki, which allows them to understand the position of people from far away, as Luffy did in Chapter 1151 with Chopper, and an opponent’s ability.

This would definitely make Luffy a bigger threat than Shanks, who is an excellent Haki user in all forms. If the protagonist begins to use the Voice of All Things to gauge his enemy’s weak points, it’s over for everyone.

Will Luffy be able to defeat Shanks?

At this stage of One Piece, we still don’t know enough about the Red-Haired Emperor, other than how immensely powerful his Haki is. He took down the Kid Pirates with a single hit of Divine Departure. Shanks’ abilities are also known to be twice as potent as Luffy’s.

So, where does Luffy stand a chance? The protagonist does have a broken Devil Fruit, the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika. In that form, he can bend reality to his will and evade Shanks before he even knows it. We doubt the Red-Haired Captain is faster than Kizaru, so perhaps this gives Luffy an advantage.

If Luffy knew someone who could teach him to utilize Voice of All Things effectively, he certainly could surpass Shanks. It might never happen, considering how rare the ability is. However, knowing One Piece, the unexpected can happen anytime.

Overall, Luffy does have Shanks beaten on two fronts: Devil Fruit and Voice of All Things. Whether or not he’d win a fight is up to Oda to depict if he deems it necessary, despite how much fans want to see a conflict between the two.

One Piece can currently be streamed on Crunchyroll.
