Oda, Make It Happen: Viral Fan Art of Luffy’s Gear 5 Is Exactly What We Need That Makes Him the Scariest Hero of All Time

The strongest power that Luffy possesses right now in One Piece is the Gear 5 transformation, also known as the Nika transformation, which he unlocked during his battle with Kaido in Wano. It has not only helped him take down Emperors and Elders but also revealed his role as the liberator of the One Piece world from the tyranny of the World Government.

However, there have been some hints and speculations about how the power of Luffy’s Gear 5 form is slowly taking over him and his sanity in One Piece. Ever since Luffy has unlocked this mysterious power, fans have noticed a little change in his behavior, and he is progressively becoming frightening and more menacing than he was before.

And recently, this instability of Luffy’s character was captured by an artist in his painting, which showed Luffy taking his much-awaited revenge on Akainu, the character responsible for Ace’s death during the Marineford arc in One Piece. The painting truly depicts Luffy’s anger mixed with insanity, which could be the future development of Luffy’s Gear 5 form.

Viral fan art shows Luffy getting his revenge against Akainu

For the past few days, a fan art created by Darus Shawab Al Yamani, also known as @dart_paint18 on Instagram, has been going viral on the internet. This fan art is a painting of Luffy’s Gear 5 transformation in his giant form, and the One Piece protagonist is holding a defeated Akainu like he is about to decapitate him.

The fan art is quite intimidating as it shows the insane side of Luffy’s Gear 5 transformation, which is still a rarity within the One Piece anime or manga series.

Not only that, seeing Luffy in such a terrifying state is something that fans do not expect much as the series has majorly portrayed his goofy and giddy personality within the story.

However, it reflects the idea of revenge against one of the biggest villains in One Piece and his actions in the past. While Luffy has never admitted it, it is safe to assume that he carries a lot of hatred for Akainu, and once he comes face to face with him again, their battle would most likely end in a similar situation as shown in the painting.

Eiichiro Oda needs to focus more on the insane side of Gear 5

Although the Gear 5 transformation has given Luffy unprecedented power and abilities, there have been speculations that it is hurting his sanity. From the red eyes to the uncanny fight sequences, almost every aspect of the Nika transformation makes it look like Luffy is slowly going insane, and he might lose his mental stability by the time the One Piece story reaches the final war.

This instability, in some way, makes sense because Luffy’s Devil Fruit is a mythical Zoan Devil Fruit, and it was disclosed long ago that zoan fruits have a will of their own. And Luffy has the most unique zoan Devil Fruit in One Piece. Thus, if the will of the Hito Hito no Mi: Model Nika takes over Luffy’s brain, it would make him a truly terrifying character.

And while it may seem threatening to his character development, Eiichiro Oda needs to make it happen because it would make him the scariest hero of all time. This way, Oda and One Piece might be able to break another stereotypical trope about an ideal shonen protagonist within the industry.

One Piece is available to watch on Crunchyroll.
