Back in the early 2000s, the women’s division of WWE wasn’t as popular as it is nowadays. The women of WWE had to toil a lot harder and the storylines somehow were a lot more subdued. Michelle McCool played a significant role back then in shaping up a seamless transition for the Divas section.
McCool started with a story arc of a teacher and then shortly, she became a prominent in-ring figure. She fought out incredible rivalries with the likes of Melina, Mickie James, Eve Torres, Beth Phoenix, and most importantly, with her favourite teammate at one point in time, Layla.

Her partnership with Layla led to the formation of the iconic heel duo called ‘LayCool’. However, once the faction split up, the duo turned into the bitterest of rivals on screen. Apart from her wrestling brilliance, McCool also hogged the limelight when she married the Phenom on June 26th, 2010. However, the marriage was just another significant part of that long-running chapter which started way back between the two.
Did the backstage force Michelle McCool to retire after marrying The Undertaker?

Talking with Chris Van Vliet on his official YouTube channel, Michelle McCool narrated how it all came along with the Phenom. She said that she and Taker got along well from the very beginning. The relationship kept on building, but it definitely had its fair share of trouble. However, she quickly flipped the word ‘trouble’ into ‘hate,’ stating that there were new animosities in place that eventually led her to quit WWE.
In the last two years of her WWE career, she kept on thinking about the fact that she didn’t want to hate a business that she loved so much. Two years before she dropped the ball, she had the seeds of departure already in mind. Once she took the call, Layla dealt with the writers and other talents involved.
She also highlighted that other people were dating in WWE at that point in time but given the fact that she was dating Mark Callaway aka The Undertaker, it was bound to pop a few eyeballs. She also revealed that despite all the hard work she put in, the pitched storylines, and the top-level work ethics, a few things never went her way.
Michelle McCool also pointed out that there was a point in time when The Undertaker would get on a bus and wait for the entire arena to bare out because she did not want anyone to see her getting on the bus. She clarified that the growing hate played a major role in her retirement from WWE. However, she also pointed out that it wasn’t the only thing that forced her to retire.
She also said that the gruelling schedule, the constant fights, and all sorts of problems that she had to endure for being with The Undertaker. McCool revealed only to Mark and Layla that she would be hanging her boots once and for all. McCool also stated that the decision to have kids was another important factor for her to step down from WWE.
Are The Undertaker and Michelle McCool still a part of WWE?

The Undertaker has retired from all forms of in-ring competition. He has opened up his own podcast called Six Feet Under with Mark Callaway. He was also inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2022 and has been a part of WWE LFG, dropping massive praise for Shiloh Hill back in the day as the latter is signed to WWE NXT already while making occasional appearances for WWE.
Michelle McCool is no longer a part of WWE. Ever since retiring in 2011, Michelle has prioritized her role as a wife and a mother. She and Mark have a daughter named Kaia. Michelle is set to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2025. Even though she makes occasional appearances on WWE and other wrestling talk shows, she has decided to bid adieu to all forms of in-ring competition for more than a decade now.
With WrestleMania 41 around the corner, chances are high that the Taker might be coming back as a guest. However, the capacity of his return has yet to be decided and confirmed. Only time will reveal if he will turn up at the biggest show of all.
