HEARTBREAKING tributes have been paid to a “bright” and “loving son” who tragically passed away after a horror ski resort accident.
Aidan Bergin, based in Waterford, tragically passed away this week from serious injuries he sustained after plunging from a height of 1,900 feet while taking a picture of the scenery at a mountain ski resort in Bulgaria.
Ivailo Lefterov of the Bulgarian Red Cross Mountain Rescue Service told local news sites that the man fell down a gully on the side of Tordoka Peak.
An air ambulance was requested for rescue but it could not reach the Irishman and his recovery was part of an hour-long effort by the Mountain Rescue Service of the Bulgarian Red Cross.
The 29-year-old was rushed to a hospital in the nearby town of Razlog with “multiple traumas” following his recovery from the mountain.
It is understood that Aidan was part of a group taking pictures of the surrounding scenery when he lost his balance and fell.
The full assessment of his injuries was carried out at the hospital and treatment was provided, but he sadly passed away on Wednesday, January 29.
A heartbreaking notice described the young man as a “gentle soul” who is “deeply missed by Niall, his parents Joe and Máire, brothers Patrick and Eoghan, sister Niamh and her fiancé David, aunts, uncles, cousins and his many many friends both at home and abroad.”
They added: “Aidan, taken so suddenly from us, will live in our hearts for ever.”
The funeral arrangements will be released later on the death notice page.
The family wishes to have no flowers but has encouraged people to donate to the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust instead.
‘NO WORDS TO DESCRIBE THE HEARTBREAK’
Since the news of the tragic passing of Aidan, tributes have started to flood the condolences page, with one old classmate saying how he “will be always be remembered for his bright smile and caring nature”.

“Aidan was a kind, clever and fun soul even as a young child and it has always been evident that your family unit is full of love, strength and friendships.
“I hope this helps on the darkest of days. You are all in my thoughts and I will always remember Aidan with fond memories.”
A close friend added: “I am so desperately sorry to hear of Aidan’s far-too-untimely passing.. He was such a lovely person and I am glad to have known him..
