“Nephew ran over me with a jet ski”: Tragic Reason Behind Matthew McConaughey’s Face Scar

Given Matthew McConaughey’s dedication to the craft, it makes sense why the mental and physical toll from some of his stints has been immense, especially True Detective and Dallas Buyers Club. Having lost 50 pounds for each of these projects, the actor’s commitment to his roles is undeniable.

Although one might assume that the physical demands of his on-screen roles would make him more susceptible to injury during filming. However, some of his most significant injuries, including the face scar, surprisingly occurred off-set.

Matthew McConaughey’s knack for adventure contributed to his scar

In addition to being one of the best in the business, Matthew McConaughey has had a knack for outdoor adventures, whether it’s glamping or road trips. However, his fascination with the outdoors has proven to be physically taxing at times, as he confessed to falling out of four trees, which resulted in four concussions.

In his memoir, he wrote (via GQ):

I’ve done peyote in Real de Catorce, Mexico, in a cage with a mountain lion. I’ve had seventy-eight stitches sewn into my forehead, by a veterinarian. I’ve had four concussions from falling out of four trees, three of them on a full moon. I’ve bongoed naked until the cops arrested me.

Moreover, before Jeremy Renner‘s near-death accident from his snowplow made headlines, the True Detective star confessed that his nephew ran him over with a jet ski, leading to the lasting scar on his face alongside 78 stitches.

He told Parade:

I’ve got 78 stitches in my forehead. Nephew ran over me with a jet ski. I got sewed up by a veterinarian.

These incidents have done little to undermine his obsession with adventures, especially glamping, to the point that the True Detective star organized a glamping-style wedding.

As for his more professional endeavors, the Interstellar star, like many revered, versatile stars, is no stranger to taxing transformations for physically-intensive roles, including his Dallas Buyers Club stint, which saw him lose close to 50 pounds.

Elaborating on the experience, McConaughey revealed that he took the healthiest way possible to lose weight within a span of four weeks.

This isn’t to say it didn’t have its side effects, as the actor confessed to losing energy “from the neck down transferred to the neck up” (via BBC).

I did it in as healthy a way as I found possible… I met with a nutritionist. I gave myself four months to lose the weight. I had my programmed meals, lost 3.5lb a week – like clockwork – and got down to my desired weight, which turned out to be 47lb lighter… The surprise was how the energy that I lost from the neck down transferred to the neck up. I became clinically aware, almost hyper, I needed three hours less sleep a night

Despite the physical challenges he took in both his professional and personal lives, McConaughey has done little to change his ways on both fronts.
