Celebrity Ghanaian media personality Afua Asantewaa has been caught pants down over claims she was only given sore throat medicine during her first Guinness World Record Singathon attempt in Accra.
Contrary claims about a litany of donations made to her and her husband during the event continue to emerge from persons within the New Patriotic Party(NPP) who either extended such gestures on their own accord or on behalf of their superiors.
“I didn’t receive anything from the government. The only thing I got was a medicine to heal my throat and that was from the former Vice President. When he visited me during the performance, she said.
National Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party(NPP), Salam Mustapha had called out Afua Asantewaa over the claim and challenged her to prove otherwise.
” This lady is not being truthful and quite ungrateful. In her first Sing-a-thon attempt here in Accra, aside Dr. Bawumia visiting her, which I played a role with Sammi Awuku and Socrates, the Vice President donated 20,000 cash, packs of papaye food, bottled water and soft drinks to her team. I personally made the donation on behalf of Dr. Bawumia to her husband and father. Furthermore, after the event, she and her family came to thank the vice president and he further paid for a vacation for her at Senchi.
So, why the falsehood? We all supported her because we saw a young Ghanaian lady trying to make a mark for herself and challenge the world. I hope she doesn’t repeat this negative narrative again”, he posted on his social media page.
Moments later, a Communications Team member of the NPP and an aide to the Former Sports Minister Jamaludeen A. Abdullah also indicated how his boss supported the Guinness World Record contender.
“Aside from the Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s donation of cash and drinks. My boss Mustapha Ussif also turned up and donated 20k which I arranged. So what is she talking about. They reached out to our outfit to support another attempt in the US. Let’s not be ungrateful”, he wrote
