Dublin, Louth, Meath and Wicklow have been place under a Status Yellow rainfall alert from 9.35am until 6pm this evening.

Met Eireann have warned localised flooding, poor visibility and difficult travelling conditions are a possibility for the duration of the weather warning.

And a thunderstorm warning has been issued for a further three counties in Northern Ireland.

The Met Office have placed Antrim, Armagh and Down under a Status Yellow thunder alert.

Met Eireann have advised the warning is in place from 6am this morning until 6pm this evening.

Thunderstorms and possible lighting are also expected in the Republic of Ireland throughout today.

Issuing an update on today’s turbulent weather meteorologists at Met Eireann said: “This afternoon, persistent or heavy rain will continue over east Leinster and the east Ulster with localised flooding.

“Rain will gradually clear to the northeast this evening. Bright spells and scattered heavy showers elsewhere with a chance of isolated thunderstorms.”

Temperatures will sit at a mild 14C to 19C throughout the day.

And Cathal Nolan of Ireland’s Weather Channel on social media also weighed in on the “overcast” conditions.

He said: “It’s overcast and wet in the east and northeast with heavy rain.

“Some heavy showers and isolated thunderstorms are possible here later this morning and into the afternoon, with sunshine and showers elsewhere also.”

Lingering showers will die out tonight as those weather warnings lift but cloud will develop throughout the night.

Just some light showers will move in across Connacht, Munster and west Ulster in 7C to 11C temperatures.

And tomorrow will be somewhat drier after today’s warnings.

Some light rain and drizzle is expected in the morning before clearing off come the afternoon.

Met Eireann promise this will leave “brighter weather” with some “sunny spells”.

Highs tomorrow of 19C once again.

‘HOT WEATHER’

And despite a poor weekend forecast next week has some good news in store with temperatures set to sky rocket.

Meteorologist Cathal Nolan has revealed “high pressure” is set to hit once again.

He explained: “For those of you hoping to finish off a silage or haylage then this may be the forecast you’ve been waiting for.

“High pressure builds in on Monday, with no rain forecast until Saturday of next week. So that’s dry weather expected for most from Monday through until Saturday inclusive.

“It will be warm during this period also with temperatures above average for the time of year, locally hot weather is possible by Thursday as a plume of hot air wafts northwards from the southeast, with values possibly peaking into the mid-20’s, with a chance of temps hitting 27 degrees for some.”
