On Monday, the Dallas Mavericks announced that Anthony Davis and Jaden Hardy have been assigned to the Texas Legends of the G League. The roster move suggests that both players, who are currently dealing with injuries, could return soon. Davis has been battling a left adductor strain while Hardy has a right ankle sprain. If no setbacks occur, both players could re-join the Mavs sooner rather than later.
Davis was acquired in the Mavericks-Lakers Luka Doncic trade. Dallas also landed Max Christie and a future first-round pick. AD was the prized acquisition in giving up Doncic, however. Yet, Davis has appeared in just over 30 minutes of a game with the Mavs, as he suffered an injury in his first contest with the team.
There have been rumors about Anthony Davis’ return this season. The Mavericks have not played well in recent action amid all of the team’s injuries, but Davis’ potential return would help them without question. If the Mavs were completely out of the postseason conversation then they would likely be especially hesitant about bringing Davis back in 2024-25. However, if the season were to end today, Dallas would be in the play-in tournament.
The 33-36 Mavericks are currently the No. 10 seed in the Western Conference standings, which means they hold the final play-in tournament position. Making a deep postseason run as the No. 10 seed would obviously be difficult, but it will become much more realistic if Davis is able to return.
Additionally, there is possibility of Dereck Lively II and Daniel Gafford returning this season. There are no new updates to report on either player as of this story’s writing, but Lively and Gafford have not been ruled out for the remainder of the 2024-25 campaign.
In other words, the Mavericks still have hope despite what has been a challenging overall 2024-25 season. We will continue to monitor and provide updates on Anthony Davis and Jaden Hardy’s potential returns as they are made available.
