Marcus Is The Only Reason Ginny & Georgia Didn’t Emotionally Implode Sooner

Spoiler Alert !!!
Spoilers for Ginny & Georgia Season 3 ahead!

Marcus Baker might not say a lot, but he’s been the emotional backbone of Ginny & Georgia since the beginning. While everyone else is caught up in big drama and messy decisions, Marcus is the one quietly carrying his own struggles while still showing up for the people he cares about.

He doesn’t ask for attention or sympathy; he just listens, supports, and keeps it real, even when he’s clearly hurting himself. The way he’s always there for Ginny, even during their ups and downs, says so much about the kind of person he is. Honestly, with all the chaos going on in that world, Marcus is one of the few reasons everything hasn’t completely fallen apart. He holds it together when no one else can.

Marcus’s struggles through the seasons in Ginny & Georgia

Marcus Baker has always been more than just a pretty smile. From the moment viewers met him in Ginny & Georgia, it was clear there was a lot going on beneath the surface, and it wasn’t just a phase. Behind the sarcasm, Marcus was silently carrying the weight of depression.

His struggle began after the heartbreaking loss of his best friend, something he revealed to Ginny back in Season 1. That grief never fully left him, and as the seasons unfolded, viewers saw just how deeply it affected him. Even in love, Marcus couldn’t shake the feeling that he wasn’t okay, and by Season 2, it became clear his mental health was unraveling.

Though he cared about Ginny, he broke things off because loving someone else while feeling broken himself wasn’t something he could manage. The show made an important choice to spotlight a young man dealing with anxiety and depression, a perspective that’s often overlooked on TV. Actor Felix Mallard gave the storyline heart and honesty, and also pitched some ideas to make it look more real.

In Season 3, Marcus hits an even rougher patch. He turns to alcohol to cope, isolates himself, and struggles to keep it all together. Though he and Ginny reconnect briefly, she realizes he needs healing, not romance, and steps back. By the end of the season, his mom helps him get into rehab, showing just how serious his battle has become.

How Marcus was the emotional glue to Ginny & Georgia

Marcus might not be the center of every storyline, but emotionally, he’s been the thread stitching Ginny & Georgia together from the start. While everyone else was spiraling, Ginny self-harming, Georgia running from her past, Zion and Paul fighting over fatherhood, Marcus offered calm in the chaos. Not by fixing anyone, but by simply showing the rare kind of emotional honesty that’s hard to find in their world.

With Ginny, Marcus was often her mirror. He never sugarcoated things, but he always listened. He saw through her walls before even she knew she had them, and he didn’t run when things got dark. Even after their breakup, he stayed supportive from a distance, never judging, never adding pressure. That kind of grounded energy gave Ginny space to figure herself out.

As for Georgia, Marcus wasn’t her favorite person, but she couldn’t ignore how much her daughter trusted him. His loyalty to Ginny helped stabilize her during some of her most turbulent moments, like when she felt alienated from her friends or burdened by her mom’s secrets. Marcus gave Ginny something Georgia never could, a safe, calm emotional escape.

Even when Marcus was struggling with depression himself, he still protected Ginny from the world. He knew when to step back, even when it hurt. That maturity helped a lot.

He’s never tried to be a hero. But by just being there, he acted as the emotional ballast for two women who didn’t always have stable ground beneath them. Without him, the emotional storm that is Ginny & Georgia might’ve blown up way sooner.

Ginny & Georgia Season 3 is currently streaming on Netflix (USA).
