Man, 30s, rushed to hospital with ‘serious injuries’ after being hit by car in Cork as Gardai issue 3am footage appeal


A MAN aged in his 30s has been rushed to the hospital after suffering serious injuries in a road traffic collision in Co Cork.

The incident, involving a vehicle and a pedestrian, occurred in the townland of Donemark in Bantry in the early hours of this morning, June 14.

Gardai and emergency services rushed to the scene shortly after the incident at around 3am.

The male pedestrian, aged in his late 30s, was rushed to Cork University Hospital by ambulance for treatment of “serious injuries”.

The male driver of the vehicle, aged in his 20s, did not require any medical attention.

Gardai reported that there were no other injuries at the scene.

The road was closed for Garda Forensic Collision Investigators to conduct an examination of the scene.

The examination has been completed and the road has now reopened to the public.

The cops confirmed that the investigation is ongoing.

A garda spokesperson said: “Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to this incident to come forward.

“Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area between 2.30am and 3.00am are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.

“Anyone with any information is asked to contact Bantry Garda Station on 027 20860, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.


“Investigations are ongoing.”

Separately, a teenage cyclist has been killed after being struck by a van in Lucan, Co Dublin earlier this week.

The 19-year-old received treatment at the scene before being rushed to Tallaght Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Gardai were alerted to the collision shortly after 7:30am on June 11.

The cyclist was struck by the van at the junction of Griffeen Avenue, R136 and the Balgaddy Road.

No other injuries were reported as a result of the incident.

Gardai have launched an investigation into the fatal collision.

Forensic Collision Investigators have examined the scene and the road has since been reopened.

The local coroner was notified and arrangements were made for a post-mortem examination.

Gardai are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward with information.
