Lucky Cyan Broke Free From ‘To Be Hero X’s Lazy Power System

One of the biggest anime series of 2025, To Be Hero X, has been witnessing epic amounts of fame and popularity since the first episode came out. The series has become an instant fan favorite, and the unique portrayal of every character’s narrative has been a thrilling experience. However, there is one major problem with To Be Hero X that bugs almost every fan.

It is the lazy power system displayed in To Be Hero X that is based on the concept of trust value and how it can change the whole world. While it is certainly intriguing, it feels like the characters don’t need to put any effort into getting a power-up or learning how to fight.

However, there is one To Be Hero X character who has managed to break free from this uncanny power system and prove herself. This character is none other than Lucky Cyan, whose story recently ended with the release of episode 10.

The lazy power system of To Be Hero X

Since the beginning of the To Be Hero X anime, the power structure of the entire series is based on the trust value a character can attain from the general population. The element of trust value not only helps the characters get superhuman abilities, but it also decides what kind of power they will receive within the narrative, which felt quite cool at first.

However, as the story moves forward, this power system feels a little awkward, as ideally, the characters don’t have to do much to gain strength. They just need to be in the right place at the right time and make others believe that they are strong. Both new heroes within To Be Hero X, Lin Ling and Yang Cheng, gained their powers in a similar way.

While they had to go through a lot, there was no element of training or combat practice that would justify their powers. In Lin Ling’s case, he got two kinds of powers, and one of them was literally without any effort. For Yang Cheng, people saw his act of courage and started believing that he was the new E-Soul, and this led to him becoming extremely powerful in To Be Hero X.

Lucky Cyan is forging her own path through the power system

Out of all the new characters introduced in To Be Hero X, the only one who managed to beat the lazy power system of the narrative is Lucky Cyan. This was displayed in episode 10 of the series, where she joined the DOS hero agency and was gifted a new guitar, which essentially turns into a bow, helping her use her powers in the best way possible.

The story highlights the fact that Lucky Cyan couldn’t use her bow and, in extension, her powers at first. However, she gets assigned a bunch of training sessions, which help her align with her powers and her bow, thus making her a deserving hero. While her luck abilities are certainly a part of the same power system, the fact that she had to train in order to master them makes a lot of difference.

Although even Yang Cheng went through a training session where he honed his abilities as the new E-Soul, it didn’t work in his case. Hopefully, To Be Hero X will expand more on its power system and give a better portrayal of the upcoming heroes within the story.

To Be Hero X is currently available to watch on Crunchyroll.
