The Hills star Kristin Cavallari has come a long way since her disappointing childhood, which was severely impacted by the whims of her “narcissistic” father. But even though she has healed and years have passed since she let even the shadow of the man grace her life, she still remembers what forced her to cut out her father from her life.
Just days ago, Cavallari had confessed that she had been waiting decades to cut out her father from her life. Following up on the admission, the actress revealed to Page Six that she suffered under a narcissitic father in her childhood and even as an adult, but what finally pushed her to snap off all ties was what he did to her children – Camden (12), Jaxon (11), and Saylor (9).
“He’s crossed the line with my kids, and those are dealbreakers for me.”
While she didn’t elaborate on what exactly happened, she added that those who are close to Cavallari are aware of what her dad did as well as the dynamics of their relationship. Unlike “people on the internet” who advise her to “really try” to fix her and her father’s relationship, her close ones understand that making amends was never an option. To the outsiders, trying to teach her the finer points of what made her life the way it is and forcing her to reconcile with her father, she has only one answer – “No, he’s out of my life forever.”
What made his actions against her children even more unforgivable was his refusal to take accountability.
“Like, if I hurt your feelings, and I come to you, you just want me to be like, ‘You know what? I am really sorry.’ Not be like, ‘Well, here’s why I did it.’ I don’t want you to defend yourself; just tell me you’re sorry and acknowledge it. It’s really difficult for a lot of people.”
Since her father “crossed a boundary” and point blank denied owning up to it, the Laguna Beach star 38, added, “And when you cross a boundary like my dad did and you can’t just take some accountability, well, I can’t have you in my life then.”
In a prior chat with People, the actress had acknowledged that while her decision may sound “messed up” to some people, cutting her dad out of her life was the best decision she ever made.
“Such a weight has been lifted from me,” she continued. “There’s not one day where I miss him. I don’t know if it was two or three years ago, but I mean, I was an adult, let’s say I was 35. It was 35 years of buildup to that point.”
Cavallari has been estranged from her father, Dennis Cavallari, since around 2021 and has no plans of giving in to societal demands of loving thy parents no matter how much they have hurt or traumatized their child.
