Kristen Kish Is Brutally Honest About if She Could Win ‘Top Chef’ Again as Season 22 Approaches Finale

Kristen Kish has come a long way since winning Top Chef herself in Season 10. Now, in her second season as the host of the popular culinary show, she’s bringing elegance and a new energy to the screen. But as Top Chef: Canada nears its dramatic finale in the heart of Milan, Italy, Kish is opening up about her thoughts on Season 22’s tough competition.

Not only that, but she also answered whether she’d ever step back into the kitchen herself as a contestant. The question was definitely interesting, and her answer might surprise even longtime Top Chef fans. Let’s dive deeper!

Kristen Kish admits she wouldn’t stand a chance if she competed on Top Chef now

Kristen Kish is wrapping up her second season as the host of Top Chef, and she’s proving to be just as sharp in front of the camera as she was in the kitchen. That’s right – being a Top Chef winner herself, she not only brings her presentation skills but also her love and knowledge of food and flavors.

But as Season 22 of the show approaches its finale in Milan, Italy, she’s being completely honest about one thing – she wouldn’t dare compete again as winning would be very difficult for her. In a recent interview with Cinema Blend, the host opened up about the incredibly talented group of chefs this season and how watching them made her reflect on her own time as a competitor in Season 10.

She joked and mentioned that if this had been her season, she would have been truly terrified. The reason? Because the finalists are all so good. Kish added:

Sometimes I think about like, ‘Oh my God, if I had to compete against all of them, and this was my season?’ Terrified, absolutely terrified. [Laughs.] They’re all so good.

Well, that says a lot, especially coming from someone who famously won the show after being eliminated and battling her way back through The Last Chance Kitchen. You’d think that kind of comeback would give her unshakable confidence, but Kish knows when to step back.

While she may not want to compete in the show again, Kish has already made a huge name for herself in the industry and is also the proud owner of her restaurant, Arlo Grey, in Austin, Texas.

Though after winning the show, she had to deal with some difficult moments, including a situation where a male chef spread negative rumors about her. Now, she feels fully content with what she does, and Top Chef fans have come to like her a lot.

Kristen Kish has a lot of respect from the chefs on Top Chef Season 22. But as the show heads towards its finale, she admitted how impressed – and even intimidated – she is by their skills. However, despite this, she won’t be back to compete again. She even joked that even if she wanted to, the show probably wouldn’t allow it. Kish added in the same Cinema Blend conversation:

No, Nope, nope, nope. [Laughs.] The good thing is that they probably wouldn’t let me. But no, I wouldn’t do it again.

But besides that, she doesn’t have the desire to put herself through that kind of stress again. This makes sense because she has already won the show once and doesn’t feel the need to prove herself all over again. Besides, as the host of the show now, she’s in a great place professionally.

Going back into the kitchen would not only put her under intense pressure but might even complicate her proud title as a Top Chef winner. What if she lost? It’s unlikely, sure – but Kish doesn’t need to take that gamble. Other chefs have returned to the show successfully. For example, Brooke Williamson, who placed second to Kish in Season 10 and later came back to win Season 14.

But for Kish, there’s no need for redemption. She’s confident in what she’s built, from her TV career to her restaurant. So, competing again just isn’t on her plate.

Part 2 of the Top Chef Season 22 finale is set to air on June 12 on Bravo.
